Frame is solidOut of curiosity, how is the frame on your truck?
Nope. I've been watching it since December. Pretty solid truck. I'm glad I'll be able to follow it on here. Good luck!Yes....
Is that bad?![]()
Thanks for the tip. I've gotten all the hoses off, suppose it'll just sit as is for now...Sucks dude and sorry to hear about the employment issues. Hopefully that gets resolved quickly.
To answer your question, yes if you do not know the age of the hoses then I would replace... there is a fat hose that goes between the lower water pump and the lower radiator (connected by a metal pipe that branches off to the oil cooler) that should be replaced while this is apart as it is an absolute PITA to get to . Contact ONUR (@beno) for the proper part(s) for that stuff.
As for the PS leak, you want to be careful of allowing it to leak as it WILL eventually seize the smog pump below it and then you will be in a world of hurt if you have emissions regulations. There are a couple options out there so try and figure out what you want to do. I would either see if you can locate the leak. If you do and it is somewhere easy like hose then keep it. If the shaft itself is leaking then others have had mixed luck getting it to seal properly again. You could see about doing the Saginaw swap (see @orangefj45 for the Saginaw conversion kit).
It spins freely. The waterpump was doing its thing just fine, it was just leaking thats allOh you would know if it was seized as it would not move. You have to remember that there is a belt running that and the waterpump so that may be the reason that the waterpump was going out. If you don't have emissions where you live then I would get ride of the pump and go with one of JimC (known as @FJ40Jim around here and see his small vendor page) smog pump pulley replacements.

Ive done minimal research on desmogging the Fj60. Once I made it to "only do this if you understand each and every smog component and vaccuum line so you can diagnose issues" I decided to let it be.
Ill look into JimC's mod and see if its something I can handle.
I love this forum and this community thus far. I was concerned at first from seeing so many people with immaculate and resto-modded FJs with tons of money into them- I spent $3000 on mine and its rusty and dirty....but I still feel welcomed and very much appreciate the help from you experienced and knowledgeable members. I havent been able to drive mine except for the 100 miles home but Ive been able to enjoy the ownership for sure.
Thanks for the reassuranceDude you are more like all of us than those "resto-mod" ones. While there are guys on here that put TONS of money into their trucks most of them started the same way are yours. Hell, I purchased mine a little over 3yrs ago for $1500 and was told by the PO that its brake booster was going out and there was a bit of surface rust but other than that it was fine. Low and behold that was pretty far from the truth BUT she was mechanically sound and has run incredibly since then with me doing work here and there and learning along the way. As long as you approach this as an investment and understand that takes work and this will more than likely NOT be just a turnkey and go type truck then you will be ahead of the game.
The JimC pulley is a pretty easy swap and there are a couple hoses that will need to be blocked off. Other option is to GUT the smog pump (if yours is still working I would NOT do this as it could go to someone in a smogged/emissions area that needs one). There is TONS of information on here so get acquainted with the search function and ask questions when you are stumped. Everyone is happy to help..
Oh and we like pictures!!
Thanks Greg I did confirm that I have both gasketsHere ya go...

When installing the new t-stat remember that there are TWO GASKETS.. there is the larger one that fits around the 4 bolts that mates the surfaces together but there is also an o-ring that goes over the top of the t-stat when installed. Plenty of other threads with proper depiction of this to help out.
Oh and good luck on Friday!
I'll be keeping an eye out for a door and a tail gate for sure!Yeah that door rust is pretty nasty and in some really bad spots. Time to hit it with some rust converter and then start the hunt for some local replacement doors.
Any word on the job?
Since you are looking to desmog in the future it may be worthwhile to just start now.. You can leave things like the air injection rail attached while you get money and time together for the plugs and what not that go in its spots. Check my sig line as there is the DESMOG thread in my personal dropbox for the 60s. In there it gives what size line to get from places like McMaster-Carr or Boostcontroller.com. If you are planning to just replace the lines I would take them off one at a time and cut a new piece of the new stuff and replace.
