Here is a question for everyone. There is not body rust at all. There is some rust underneath but I cannot tell if it is just normal surface rust or is this something more.

At face value, it looks like surface rust...any idea of the history? Is it a California rig?

Check the frame rails behind the rear wheels, especially the insides and that will give you a good indication of the rust.

I wish mine only had that much rust.

As far as the oil leak..that is pretty much standard. Most likely the rear main, which is VERY common.

The previous owner was in Northern Cali. Don't know about the owner before that.

The oil leak doesn't have me too concerned. I am thinking the same thing as you.

Next question, what is the easiest way to remove the surface rust? lol

Surface rust - power wash with degreaser and paint.

Congrats! Looks like a nice truck. Post some more pics! Interior and all that stuff...

Looks great! Should clean up nice. Congrats, would look REAL nice with an OME lift!

You call that rust?!!! Man, congratulations with such a rust free cruiser! Enjoy it.

Nope didn't say it was bad rust.....wondered if that was or not. Coming from a 200 series with no rust at all, I was not sure. lol

But I think I have a spider issue. I have seen a few spiders going in and out of the hood cowl slots.....so when I get it back from toyota I am going to bomb it from underneath and kill those suckers!

Love the duct tape on the side mirror!

Why are you sending it to a dealership?

I guess when they were transporting it, the mirror was really flapping around, so the shippers did that :)

Why are you sending it to a dealership?

Need the a/c to work (it does not now). Wanted to get it all checked out. Need the radiator flushed. Wanted the checked out, etc. There is not a single local shop that I trust yet.

Looks nice. Do you know where I can get one of those front bumpers with the custom water bottle holder?

Well here in Kalifornia we are very ECO friendly :)

you might want to check out some of the local cruiser shops (if any) before heading down to the dealer as it might save you some $$.

Well here are the results of the Toyo service center visit.

A/C compressor and pump gone. Plus it needs the retro fit kit. As we all know freon is a no-no.. It has already hit 100 degrees this week here, so this is a MUST!

The power steering pump is leaking, but it is not bad at all..... not going to fix that right now (almost a $800 fix!) I will just make sure it is always full

The oil leak is in the valve cover. So we are obviously going to replace that. That was the only leak they saw....

It needs a new carb. I knew that when I bought it and the owner had a new toyo carb already in a box ready to have his mechanic put on, but when he was going to sell it, he just left it in the box.

Plus they have to remove the carb to get to the valve gasket. So it is not really going to cost me much more in labor or parts.

It has a issue with downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. It grinds and won't go in. I thought it was the syncro and was confirmed mostly right BUT without taking apart the tranny there is no real way to know.
Since I am going to put he 5 speed into it in a few months. I decided to wait on that.

Radiator needs flushing, and got flushed.

Brakes and rotors were fine.

They said that things were replaced on it, inside and out, and all with Toyo parts.

Everything else looked fine they said.

So all in it is going to cost about $1700 for parts and labor for all that stuff.

I am going to start pulling the carpet out of her this weekend and start installing the second skin sound dampener.

Then once that is all installed, I am heading down to the carpet guys I found on here, who make a custom FJ-60 complete molded carpet kit. Jim down there said for an additional $100 they would install it. WINNING!

Then to the upholstery shop to see what we can do about the seats.

Then window tinting, another must here in the desert.

Once thing that is interesting, that I didn't mention before. The previous owner used Rustoleum Bed Liner, and spray painted the WHOLE truck with it. It has what I am calling a 'Sand Camo' look. I don't know...might keep it.

Anyway that is the latest news.

So total so far:

FJ-60 $2000
Repairs $1700
Carpet replacement and install - $500
Second Skin Sound Dampener - $200

Total so far $4400.....

Oh - this is that 60 that was on ebay, up in Diamond head ? --

The carb they have is not the right carb! It's an early 40 series carb!

As above - Go to a LC specialist!! I can't stress this enough! Do NOT go to the dealer!!! It's not that I distrust the dealer, it's just that you're VERY unlikely to find a tech there that knows much about the intricacies these rigs.

Take the carb off yourself and have it rebuilt by a specialist!

It was from near Brentwood, Ca, up by Fresno.

I checked the ppwk that came with the carb and it says it is for a 60 Series. I would not know by looking at it though.

Also, you can get a Reman DENSO compressor and new Denso dryer for about $230 -- KEEP the R12 !! it is still available and air cond shops will install it and it is the best for your truck....

If you wanna talk, PM me and I'll send you my phone #
