I've been a Toyota fan since I drove my friends '91 Toyota pickup in high school. I rode in my 1st Cruiser in college. My daily is a 2015 Tacoma with 118,000 miles.

I've been casually looking for an 80 series for the last few years. In April I found a '94 FZJ80 with factory lockers & 234,000 miles through an acquaintance. The owner offered to sell it for less than the ARB front bumper cost new. Of course I agreed! It sat for 10 years & needed some work, so I'm slowly getting it back in shape.

So far I’ve replaced the battery, fusible link, EFI fuse, fuel pump & entire assembly, dropped the fuel tank & cleaned out all the scale & rust. After that it started right up & now the motor purrs like a kitten. I’ve put about 100 miles on it so far. It passed emissions test today with no other work done.

I’m currently trying to figure out why the brake pedal won’t return after I press it. Bled 3 of the 4 calipers (1 has a seized bleeder screw). I’ve searched the forums for any other tricks, but nothing has worked so far. Next I’ll tear into the calipers.

Welcome!
Congrats on the find and the progress bringing it back to action. Looks like youve added a lift and I hope tires as well lol. That’s one dead yoko

There is a spring under the dash that returns the brake pedal to the up position.

Check the FSM for location and see if yours is in place.

Thanks! The OME lift was already installed when I bought it. The rear tires are just some used KO2s so I can drive it until I decide what wheels & tires I want.

Thanks! The spring was in place but I replaced it anyway. I also lubed the hell out of the pedal pivot but it didn’t change anything. I also tried a trick I read about here. Pumped the pedal 40 times with the engine off then started it. That helped for a few minutes but once it got warmed up the pedal started sticking again. Makes me think the issue is in the master cylinder?

Disconnect the rod connecting the pedal to the booster.

Then actuate the pedal to see if it is the pedal sticking or the booster rod.

Then diagnose from there.

Any idea on why it was parked long ago? Maybe the "brakes didn't work" and it was just a booster?

Thank you! I’ll look at that next. Could have been because of the brakes. The PO never really said why he parked it. That made me a tiny bit nervous to buy it, but for the price I couldn’t pass it up. Turns out I scored big time.

The rig looks great. I have a project that I'm about to start back up but I'm in need of a fuel pump assembly. Where did you source yours?
