Had a great day out 4x4ing today, but toasted my rear tailshaft, question is, is the FJ73 middy tailshaft common to any other models? like a 45 or 60 or something so I got more scope to look for one?

cheers

HTF did you do that?:D

I think that will be unique to the 73/74 series

Nice job you did there. ;) You must have been laying flat out on the belly on the rocks to get that done....

As far as replacement: in my parts list I find quite a lot of different partnumbers for the different types of rigs in the 70-series. Even within certain types (depending on production year) are differences.
So you'll have to find out your exact partnumber to compare...

Hit this massive rock in the centre of the track, the whole driving to the side of it didnt work, so when it came my turn, didnt want to winch so gave it some berries and came up trumps! launched it.... hope the video turns out good was a wild ride!!

I think i might end up taking it to a driveshaft place and getting a new thickwall tube put on it since not many ppl wreck 73/74 sereis cruisers

called pretzeling your driveshaft.
i done a few like that over the years, the best was coming out of a creek bed in the winter in a FJ45 and the rear driveshaft took the load as the ass came out. i cut off the factory tube and replaced with a piece of 1/8" wall pipe, worked REAL nice, balanced up beautifully and STRONG. i would suggest you do the same.

If you want a drive shaft to start with and you can't find the correct one, you can start with a 60 series, it will be longer and a drive shaft shop can cut it down to size. I think even the FJ73 is different than the HZJ73 and BJ73 because of the tranny/tansfer placement, and or if you have auto verse manual.

Cheers,

Michael

Going to call up some places today, Hardy Spicer and Dana arent far from my work, hopefully then can cut off the tube and chuck a thicker one on. If not i'll get a 60 series one which are common and shorten it.

Driving in FWD sucks, car handles really strange and bucks around when taking off ahahah.

LOL!!
this is what was told to me when i asked about ballancing a driveshaft...
the driveshaft expert took a washer and said "where would you like me to weld it on?"

since then we ahve never bothered to "ballance" a driveshaft, if the welder is good then you are golden...

if you can weld and can turn the ends to fit straight then what do you have to loose?

if you do nto have a lath then take the pipe to a machine shop, get them to turn the ends with a bevel, take it home and weld it up...
