I searched and was unable to find anything. It seems the vast majority of MUD members have a strong mechanical background, or at least have some basic mechanical ability.

But I am sure there are plenty of members like myself, who either do not have the time or the confidence to take their Cruisers apart. Maybe there is a way for everyone to benefit.

What about starting a thread where MUD members with mechanical experience can post their information. Then members like myself can hire them to either do the work, or supervise and provide the tools and space needed.

Just an idea.

First source would be to go to the local Clubhouse section and search out folks in that region. Not that this is a bad idea, because if I was traveling and had a breakdown, I would know who to call first.

ask around in the socal 80s

Thats a wonderful Idea. ! I understand the logistics of it and timing would be hard and It would put extra burden on the skilled members, nevertheless It still would help our younger and willing to learn men to build skills to at least prevent damage to the ever shrinking gene pool of 80s. Helping men, new to 80s find a solid rig to begin with would be awsum, It makes me sick when I here someone has been swindled. Great Idea I'm 70 miles west of Chicago and would be willing to help here If I could. Good Luck

I am in South Florida and have my own tools, just bring it over and we can work something out!

I'm in Pittsburgh, PA (not exactly the 80 capital of the world) but have all the tools and fab equipment needed in our garage, anything from custom fab, to head gaskets, full rebuilds, axle service, gears, etc...

Shoot me a pm if ya need anything...

Try living in NY... I got nobody. :( sniff sniff...

I'm in the San Fernando Valley. I've helped a few dozen mudders over the years so looking forward to helping others. I have Spector Off Road in my back yard. Got lots of tools and some basic fabrication equipment. No armor but simple brackets and stuff.

When I tackled replacing a piston, I got on the Gateway Cruisers club here in St. Louis and a fellow mudder came by to help put the head back on, help means made sure I didn't do anything stupid, I was nervous, pretty important seal there and I've never been good at seals.

First time I'd ever had a head off an engine. I bugged the CRAP out of the MUD Masters. Thanks Jonheld and Pinhead, she's running again and pretty well but compression isn't too good. For me half the fun is figuring it out although MANY times during the project I was ready to quit and tow it to a shop.

Wish there was a good LC mechanic in St. Louis!

There was ( is ) a list of mechanics per area .?

Yeah, there is very helpful and comprehensive list of mechanics organized by state. I was thinking to compile a list of non-professional mechanics. Just a place for MUD members with mechanical experience to earn a little extra cash while helping other members when they have free time.

Just received my LOKKA part-time conversion kit and front auto locker. It is supposed to be an easy drop-in, but I would feel much more comfortable having help.

PM me if this is something you are confident you could help with.

Maybe we could post a full write-up for both the conversion and locker install.

Thanks

I've done a few locker installs. Heck we did @Qball 's rear locker three times :flipoff2:
The locker, assuming its the correct pieces in the kit, everything is in spec AND you don't tear any gaskets then yes, its basically "drop-in". ARB takes a lot more time. If you are doing the part time conversion then that means you need to remove your vicious coupler, if your truck has one. I don't see what year your truck is so I'm going on the assumption. If you are putting in the part time kit (which I have not done myself) are you also going to do Marlin's gears since, well, you are right there? What about new bearing?

Front auto locker.

BTW, is this a good time to maybe talk you out of a front auto locker? Is this truck going to live in the dirt or see lots of highway and street driving? A selectable front would be a far better/safer way to go IMHO. Maybe the front locker doesn't come into play with the part-time kit. I dunno.

Its a 1992. I wasn't planning on doing Marlin's gears or bearing. But only because I didn't know about them. Given the chance, I would rather replace and upgrade anything that is reasonable and convenient while in there.

I went with the auto lockers because the only time I will be driving this truck is when I'm heading to the dirt. I would greatly appreciate your help. If you won't accept cash, maybe you will accept pizza and some cold beer?
