For those that have followed my intercooler project on my 13B-T, I just got back from another road trip. I drove from Fairbanks, AK, to GlennAllen, AK, about 218mi/353km one way. I left yesterday, Friday, and came back today, Satureday. Temps going south ranged from just below freezing to above freezing and then back down to +8F was the coldest I saw. I was bucking a headwind just about all the way dow, with about 100mi. winds around 15to 30(?)mph. Coming back today, the temps stayed pretty close to freezing and slightly above with pretty much the same winds. Driving about 55-60mph and slowing in the curves. Going down was all #1 diesel, coming back was half#1/Half#2:
Down: 23.1mpg
Back: 27.2mpg
Hmm, can't wait till I get straight #2 diesel agian. Interesting temps and boost levels when I was in the strongest winds. With headwinds, EGT about 500-600F and boost about 6-7psi. With tail winds, EGT about 380-410F and boost 2psi. For refresher, my EGT is about 4" south of the turbo charger. I would be stocked if I could get 25-26mpg with #2 diesel in a no-wind situation.
Just thought I'd share.

congrates.

Up in Canada I have not seen any choice in Diesel. We only get "diesel".

I would not even know the difference between 1 and 2 or others.

Can you enlighten us as to what the different diesels are and do?

Soon all we will get is ultra low sulpher diesel. Not sure what that will do for us. Right now tho I use additive regularly. Even more so if I am burning a tank of Jet A-1.

Ultra low sulphur... More fuel pump troubles.. Less M.P..G. A Friend of mine who runs and owns a large 4wd workshop and parts retail business claims each time they lower the sulphur here in Oz he gets a big rush for recon fuel pumps and injector service.

...less zetane(octane?):frown:

Cetane...allows diesel to burn easier. Piers Diesel Research sells Canadian Lubecorp products, and I'm thinking of switching from Howe's Diesel Treat to one of their premium diesel enahancers with Cetane booster.

#1 is straight diesel, #2 is half diesel, half kerosene aka "winter blend" diesel. I believe it is also oxigenated to keep it from gelling as well. Nothing to do with low sulphur but that is a big thing as well. Best additive for lubricity in my opinion... ...biodiesel! 2% bio restores all lubricity as if the sulphur was not removed. This was the path they took in Europe and in 3 states (one more pending) currently...

Followed the link, thanks. I can see there would be no room for the intercooler mod on my 24v BJ74, it's pretty much wall-to-wall engine in there. Heck, it's difficult enough to find a space to mount a small flat plate fuel heat exchanger in there.

Where there's a will, there's a way. :D Bruce's Saab intercooler into a 13B-T is also a very clean install. He moved his rad back a little in order to fit the intercooler. You can do the same thing by trimming your fan shroud and fabbing up some new rad mounts. Here's the link to Bruce's project:

up to 10 cetane points looks nice .. did you know how much for Gal . ?

BTW .. those are awesome numbers .. never get in city driving ( not yet higway measurements ) more than 21km/g with my 1HD-T and never more than 24 in my 2H.

You use a funny way of tracking...KMs to Gallons :)

just say liters to 100 kms or miles to gallon(us or imp). I don't think many people will understand the meaning of kms/gallon.

is this what measurment is commom in Panama?

BB,

he must get SIGNIFICANTLY better milage with his H series engines in Panama. 21 or 24 km per GRAM of fuel!!!!!
...it must have come with the factory flux capacitor:grinpimp:

However, the results from the BJ74 are really encouraging (for those folks with turbo, as well as those wanting to turbo & aftercool at the same time.

Cheers,
Steve

yap .. yes it is. We have our speedometer in Km, and we buy in gals, water, gas, kerosene, milk etc ..

But to make the conversion, 13.5 milles/gal

Shell now sells two grades of Deisel... but don't go to shell.

Why not go to Shell?
