Hi everyone,

My wife and I will be moving to the Olympia area sometime after the first of the year. I grew up in northern Idaho and have lived in Arizona since the late 80's.

I currently have a 1968 FJ40 factory soft top that is in the middle of a rebuild. Really looking forward to moving back to the pacific northwest, I have been in this damned desert WAY TOO LONG. :-)

And even though I am heading to western Washington, Go Cougs! :-) (I went to school in Pullman)

Well then, a preemptive "welcome back" to you Scott!

It's been pretty quiet around here lately, but I do my best to post up planned runs that people might be interested in the area. It would be great to meet you guys when you get to the area.

We've tried a few South Sound meet ups but don't generally get too much interest (lots of busy people up here, it seems)

There are a lot of cruisers up here, though! If you don't mind me asking, what's bringing you up to Oly?

I have always liked the south sound area. My wife and I have been wanting to move back the the northwest for a really long time, and finally decided that we just needed to pull the trigger and do it.

I told my company that I was moving and that it was up to them if I continued to work for them or not, and they were quite accommodating.

The logistics are actually a bit overwhelming right now. We will need to find somewhere to rent that allows pets while we spend some time looking for a place to buy. We are planning on moving with as little stuff as possible, and I think I am going to try to get my FJ40, which is in pieces right now, moved up to northern Idaho for storage while we are in the process of the move.

I can honestly say that house hunting from 1500 miles away sort of sucks. I am making a trip up at the end of the month to look at properties though.

We are looking for a 1+ acre lot with a 3+ bed and 1+ bath. I would love to have a large garage / shop, but if there is enough land I can build that. We are also looking for a little ways out of town on a wooded lot.

Keeping our fingers crossed otherwise we will be homeless in a few months. :-)

Sounds like things are coming together! I know what you mean about the long distance property search, I've been through it a few times looking for a place to rent, I can't imagine looking at places to buy!

Let me know if there's anything I can do, if you need a ride from the airport, need help drinking beer at the Fish Tale brew pub, etc

have you guys figured out where about you might be interested in living? that makes a big difference in how much your $$$ buys you.

Sort of looking for Thurston County, but we have a number of places out towards Shelton that we are looking at, as well as a few towards Elma.

I am flying up on the 27th and will be there for a few days to look. If things go well, we will be making an offer on something.

Prime access to the Olympic NF! Our group met up in Shelton for the last snow run we went on.

I'm between Tacoma and Aberdeen every week. I used to live in Olympia, and the :princess: used to keep her horse in Tumwater. It's a nice area.

May or may not be important to you but Thurston co does not have vehicle emission checks.

While not the real reason we are looking at Thurston county, it certainly is one of the benefits. It is also a reason why we are avoiding Pierce and King counties.

We just found out that there are multiple offers on the place we want. We should have some sort of an answer this week though. We will either have the place we want, or we will be starting the search all over again. We have our fingers crossed.

Sadly we didn't get the place we made the offer on in Tumwater. Re-grouping and heading back up the first weekend in March for another round of hunting. Really need to move this all along or we might just find ourselves homeless in a few months. :-)

We made another trip up last weekend and spend a long weekend looking at houses. We found a place a little south of the Olympia airport that we really liked and after an offer and a counter offer, we went to contract yesterday.

Obviously we have all the inspection and financing stuff out of the way and we have a planned closing date in the middle of April.
