In the next 3 weeks or so I will be cutting the current sliders off and re-surfacing them if anyone is interested in them. The proceeds will go to funding an Amazon welder!

I really don't know what an Amazon welder means, but friends don't let friends buy crappy welders.

I have been fabricating for 2 decades and own 2 really nice welders (MIG and TIG/Stick). I also own all the other trappings like a bender, notcher, plasma cutter.

That being said, I am also in grad school and have just started a project. I decided to save my very precious time and just bought sliders. I can get them for almost the price of materials. I still have to fit and weld them on. Instead of buying a beginner welder, you should join a club. It is cheaper and plenty of members will let you use their shops and equipment to do work. When you are ready to buy a welder, you should buy a good one that will last and lay down great beads. The cheapest welder you should even consider is over $700 (assuming you are looking at wire feed welders). If you have your eye on anything cheaper than that or anything that is 115 volt I would kindly suggest you look at something better or simply hold off. My first welder was a 115 flux core Craftsman that I bought to build sliders with and it was terrible, so I am speaking from experience.

Agree. You'd be better off grabbing a used Miller or other higher end machine off craigslist than some Amazon junk. I got a Hobart (Miller internal parts) from a welding school with a bad PC board off craigslist for cheap. A couple hundred bucks later and I was welding :) At work I love my Miller 252, I'll get one for my home garage eventually...

@44Runner @TonyP @ca18sean

Thank you very much haha!!!

Never thought'd Amazon would create this much uproar. Im glad it takes me a long time to get to things so luckily I haven't gotten an Amazon welder. My neighbor a few houses down has a Miller on a nice cart and rebuilds old hotrods... I have yet to make friends with him but maybe I should. Id appreciate some feedback on this learning venture Im going to embark on. I may browse the local classifieds when I get home.

I'm sure when I get my welder I won't be letting you guys down. I'll probably post pics of my small projects and progress and would enjoy some feedback.

Update on my update:

1. I was also able to take off the throttle body and discover a whole lot of oil. Im guessing my turbo needs a rebuild? Im looking into driftmotion's ct26 turbo rebuild. That should keep me busy for a little when I get home. I was able to give a nice cleaning to the crossover pipe. Anyone got tips how clean all this gunk? I used a brush and some purple power.

2. What is that electrical thing, and whats the best way to clean? (excuse my lack of knowledge)

3. Ill be going through my SD cards to find more pictures that I have taken along the way.

4. Also Im working on my Arduino which I think will be a nice addition to the truck. So far on my breadboard I have 3 Temp sensors (EGT, Water, Ambient). 2 pressure sensors (Boost, Oil) and a gps chip for speed. Coding is no easy job, I thought it'd be a walk in the park but its a learning process. I am going to project everything onto a Oled screen, not too sure how big or small yet but it'll probably go into the overhead console I have sitting in my garage.

The first picture is the heater screen, the 13BT doesn’t use glow plugs. Clean it with brake cleaner or electrical cleaner.

Sweet thank you, just found out it was the heater anyway. Was going to update that post. Oh well... Do you know where I can find a repair manual for the 13bt/h55 or simply the BJ74.. I currently use partsouq to figure out what parts are.

Not super familiar with B series stuff, but if it has a PCV system, that is another common cause of oil in the intake.
They have crankcase ventilation yes. Most folks just run the tube into a chassis rail or similar. I run into a pro vent 200 on mine, then back into the air intake pre turbo.

So does this rule out a possible turbo oil leak? I dont want to mess with it if I dont have to but the amount of oil seemed abnormal. Under acceleration It would burn off until the turbo kicked in. That was a deciding factor on why I parked it. I dont want to break it lol

It doesn't rule it out, but checking the PCV system and possibly putting in a catch can is a lot easier and less expensive than a turbo replacement. Check the intake pipe pre turbo for oil; if there is a significant amount of oil then your PCV is at fault.

Sounds like that is the culprit. Cool. Saves me some money. So a catch can should fix my problem then. Can you replace the PCV on the 13bt? I also need new intake hoses. I see the part is discontinued, will any 2.75in silicone hose suffice?

AUS BJ73 + turbo + arduino

check out this thread for Arduino stuff

PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation, it is just a hose that vents from the valve cover to the intake, relieving blowby pressure from the engine. Just route that hose from the valve cover to the catch can, and then to the intake and that *should* solve your problem. Here is a photo of the one I installed in my first Prado. The catch can is a Mann-Hummel ProVent 200, I highly recommend it.

That’s where I got my inspiration from. Although I am going a different route. Same concept at the end of the day though. I may place the oled screen over the dash and make a bezel for it to fit. Then I can insert animated gauges and have a modern cluster. One step at a time, what’s more important is having all the sensors reading accurately.

Added to the amazon wish list, thank you!

online manuals
I got my 13BT manual, body chassis and H55f manual from this site. Huge PDF and you need Utorrent but it’s been so helpful for me.

I personally found www.megazip.com easier for navigating diagrams.
Having trouble with the files. Utorrent unfortunately doesn't work on my mac, gonna have to find an alternative source. Bauchan.org is hard to navigate :poop:

Edit: with about 1 minute of reading I got the 13bt manual. Will be looking for the h55 later.

Made some progress on my Headgasket today. The internals look rather sludged up. I discovered a reddish greenish coolant upon draining so Im suspecting maybe someone blended flavors with some water. Ill probably end up using Prestone as it is readily available. Im gonna see what is the best option to tackle this rust. Any opinions?
My parts should be in any day now, at least the wait should give me some time to clean things up.
