does anyone know if you can adjust the fuel for more power on a 3b 1982 ? i have checked mine it never smokes black does that mean you can give it more fuel ?

you may be able to. But you NEED a pyro gauge hooked up to do so.

Things to improve the power;

-rebuild/service fuel injectors
-adjust valve clearance
-replace exhaust with 2.5 inch freeflowing. with muffler.
-install pyrometer and tune the fuel to get an optimum of 1250 under heavy heavy load. Which may be hard in Manitoba to do :) Due to no really big hills.

You'll have to drive south too do it......... LOL

Nah you would just set it up to be 1200 under full throttle acceleration.

Then if you encounter a big hill one day you look at the gauge to make sure the temps don't go too high.

thanks for the help and if i look real hard i could find a hill maybe?? lol by the way what is a pyrometer where do you put it?

Ahh newbie one..... time to try the search function. More good reading than you care to read... :)

A pyrometer is a gauge that reads the exhaust gas temperature. Too high and head/engine damage will occur. The probe is mounted on the exhaust closest to the engine.

But search pyrometer on here. Or Pyro. Nother.. the pyro mounts on the dash to be read while driving.

A naturally aspirated 3B can run hot, so its good for engine health to look at the gauge,

That said....GO search on here.

I will second the pyrometer suggestion especially since I have blown a 3B up due to a dropped pre-combustion chamber likely due to too much heat (that engine never blew out black smoke either).
I've seen the pyrometer on my truck hit 1400+ within 1/2 second of the turbo crossover pipe popping off (which basically makes it a naturally aspirated truck) on a hill climb from El Salvador to Guatemala. Naturally I shut down and repaired it right away!
