    Here's the story...
    http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/nation/3273643

2 more months of Daylight Savings Time -- one month added to the front and end of the current period. Why is it that so many people think that moving hands on a clock actually provide more daylight? Better get a flashlight for Billy and Suzy who'll be waiting at the bus stop in the dark every morning...

    I hate DST!

For whatever reason...the canucks seem really annoyed by it..apparently, they like to keep the same time that we do...so if the US changes when DST occurrs, Canada would need to do the same for continuity purposes if nothing else...

I thought I heard somewhere that it'll save a s*** load in energy usage, but that could be a BS.

Edit- Should've read the article first.

AZ and I think Ohio don't do it.....we are barely an agricultural society so I say screw it...bring in year around schooling for the same reason.

"Times change, most people do too" - Name that movie!!! :D Sorry for the Hijack. ;)

"Crooks don't tend to be early risers, so the extra daylight helps cut down on crime."

Yep... there's a compelling argument. We all know that moving the hands on a clock changes the amount of light emitted by the sun and/or the speed of the earth's rotation, right?

I agree with Doug. DST sucks.

Ohio uses it. I recall Indiana has local option regarding DST. Some parts do and some don't. You want to talk about schizophrenia--hell, try living in one time zone, working in another--all within just a couple of miles.

I think Indiana will move the entire state in line with the other 48 states playing along with DST. I remember watching a story on the CBS Sunday morning show where there was a town that was split by the DST thing -- that would suck to have to figure out the different times based on what side of the street you're on.

As part of NAFTA Mexico started doing the DST thing. They REALLY hate it there.
Makes sense to have a constant time difference with your trade partners, but come on!

My relatives in IN are pissed that the new govenor feels the need to change. They will be going to DST, but don't know if they are going to be Detroit time or Chicago time.

Indiana - where nothing ever changes, not even the time.

    SERIOUSLY!

That means manually changing stuff then changing it back when it hits the old date

    Idiots!

They just can't leave well enough alone.

I'm confused. So, like, when is the correct time? Summer, or winter?

My father in law is a rancher...like he always says, DST doesn't affect him....."when it gets light in the morning I go to work, when it gets dark I quit"!

Queensland doesn't do DST. Man I love December 21 when the sun peeks up from the ocean at 4:14...

Unless you're either on a Mac or connected to the internet. Every morning when I start my computer, it connects to a central server and updates all of the time and date info...not sure if PCs do that...

now that I think about it, my VCR gets it's time and date info from the cable connection...my caller ID handels it automatically, too.

A valid point, except the NTP world runs off UTC. The time zone and DST information are local to the device. Including whether DST is observed where you are, and on which day to switch (assuming it's even configurable).

Edit: yes Windows PCs can be set up to do that too, but most of them probably aren't.
