Since GSMTR I haven't done much of anything to Moonshine, but I feel that this thread needs an update anyway. In June I took her up to the western part of NC and did some camping:
On that trip she started some severe blow by out of the road draft tube, so bad that it coated the DS frame rail, rear axle and rear hatch with engine oil. I fear that the high EGTs over so long coupled with the mud bog drag stunts I pulled at GSMTR did the rings in. I need to do a compression test to confirm. *sigh*
Between the suspected rings, power steering issues and lack of AC, I've been driving my new-to-me F-550. 2004, 6.0 Powerstroke, ZF-6, 213k miles now. Flew down to Lake Worth, TX and drove her back. Current thinking is flat bed/ramp truck, but for now I built a small wood bed just to be able to use it.
I believe that the factory Dana135 rear axle has 4.88 gears, so the RPMs are fairly high at highway speed. Gets about 12mpg.
As if that wasn't enough, been working for the past 6 weeks on a 95 4Runner, converting it into a quad cab pickup with a full roll cage:
Finally got the cage finished and new d-pillar tacked in place this past weekend:
All while at the same time playing with my new tubing bender, fabricating some sliders for a HZJ75. They're 78" long
Some day I'll be able to work on Moonshine again. I need to fix the hydraulic system with a new steering pump, a new hydroboost unit, larger brake MC, appropriate proportioning valve and FZJ80 steering box. I also need to fix the AC, install an intercooler and, you know, rebuild the engine (maybe). I better just pull a @boots4 and yank the engine so I can give the engine a once-over!!
