i've had fuel filters crack and leak when the temperature drops below freezing.

Mine didn't appear to be leaking and it wasn't cracked, although it was a little loose on the filter head (it was barely hand tight). The only thing we can think of is that it loosened up a bit more, causing an air leak, because it was cold out.

Does your manual primer pump leak? It's a s***ty plastic piece.

Not on a VE it's not. It's a metal lever that's part of the lift pump.

No issues since replacing the fuel filter, although it's been nice and warm.

Took moonshine out and beat the snot out of her again this past week at Uwharrie. Popped another 1310 output yoke. Cheap chinese garbage  I'll be upgrading to a 1350 flange and a 1350cv in the rear before my next wheeling outing.

In other news, I really like these coopers!

Yes, I was getting a little throttle happy, but this is not acceptable. I think the problem is that this part is sintered, not machined, so it just doesn't have any strength:

Also, my transmission mount gave up the ghost, so I replaced it. No exhaust rattle now, so it must have been going for a while

Doesn't look like your trailer squatted at all with that load in it.

Bummer about the yoke. Glad that 4bt is being exercised.

I had a spare yoke, nut and rear driveshaft. Not my first rodeo. Pissed that it broke though.

Wasnt all that much weight for the trailer, but I could certainly feel it offroad. It beats the truck up towing that much offroad.

Fwiw, the trailer was empty when I popped the yoke. I'm thinking the 1350 hardware will fix it for good.

In prep for some overland-style trips later this year, I'm going to build a forward section to compliment my rear drawers. I've had the rear seats out for coming up on a year and I don't see them going back in ever.

I'm shopping for ideas. I know that @jfz80 did a sweet setup in his 80 recently, so maybe he could post some pictures up?

Anyone else out there built a forward section that comes up to the front seats? Looking for a couple of hatches to access the space underneath as well as a place to store my spare driveshafts as well as my high-lift just behind the front seats.

In addition, I have the WagonGear seat box, so I could potentially use it as a mounting point.

Where are you overlanding to? :)

Is the trailer load of steel just to test out the trailer or what? Building a bridge out in the bush?

What kind of power are you getting out of the 4bt? Whats your fuel mileage like?

The steel were posts for guardrail. There's a lot of guardrail going up in the USFS managed trail system to keep people out of the off-limits areas.

Haven't dynoed the truck yet, but based on the numbers, I should be around 300hp and 500ft/lbs of torque. Getting ~20mpg if I keep it at or below 65. ~18-20mpg in the city depending how spirited I drive.

Ohh that's nice of you guys!

are you on 35's or 37's or what?

I feel fortunate that I am at ~23-24mpg mixed driving, with a few spirited accelerations. I am finding that slow traffic still tries to pass me if a hill is coming... until I ink them with black smoke.

35s currently. I got better mileage with the 37s I used to have, but the ride and acceleration are so much better with 35s.

Black smoke is not a good thing. You should tune the truck so it doesn't smoke. Don't be *that guy* that gives diesel owners a bad rep.

Totally agree here.

Black smoke is because excess fuel is being dumped in and there isn't enough oxygen to burn it. If you floor it and the motor can't process the fuel it black smokes until it can.

I have no smoke under regular operation, if I did the motor would have probably blown up already.

If I am idling and I floor it off the line, it puffs a cloud of smoke. If you are pushing 300hp out of your 4bt, I am puzzled that you do not have the same thing happening. There is really nothing that can be done about this except not floor it off the line or turn the pump back down.

This is what I am talking about

I do not even get a hint of black smoke while driving under normal conditions, but as you can see if I floor it at idle, it dumps in more fuel then it can process.

No offense, but I'm getting 23-24mpg. I am "that guy" getting better fuel milage then 99.9% of people driving big trucks. I have no intention of turning my fuel down. On the longest of hills I have pulled, which was last weekend, my EGTS did not even rise above 800 at full throttle in 5th gear @ 1,800 rpm.
