This is going to sound stupid but, I cannot find the parking brake assembly on my 77' 40.

The lever in the cab is good to go, but there is no cable running to the end of the transfercase (near the speedo cable) and no brake assembly where it should be. The rear drive shaft runs straight into the t-case, the pics in the FSM show a parking brake drum assembly but there is nothing there on mine. WTF?

Is/was there ever a different e-brake setup? Not having one is starting to get on my nerves and I want to fix it.

If they used the eldorado calipers they could of moved the parking brake to the rear axle.

You have 4 wheel disc, PO may have meant to add the parking brake to the rear discs and never completed the work.

Get a pic, sounds like something has been modified on your rig,

Is your rear output offset?

Stock motor, Stock trans???

Stock Motor and Trans.

I did the disc brake conversion about a month ago, used the kit from jtoutfitters with 87 monte carlo calipers.

Is there any mods that may have been done that require removal of the e-brake? the rear drive shaft looks to be original same with the rear end, I will get a pic and post tomorrow.

That looks like a split case xfer, so that explains the lack of parking brake on the output. If you have had the GM rear disc conversion, you can switch to the ElDorado calipers that have the manual Pbrake.
BTW, most consider the split case to be a nice upgrade. Stronger.

What year is the truck?

Ed

its a 77,

heres the thing, I just spent 500 on the rear disc conversion with the prop valve and don't want to switch out brand new stuff.

Are there any other options?

Line Locks... little plumbing and you got yourself a Parking brake.

you can buy them at summit. you pretty much depress the brake pedal and push a button and your brakes stay on.

Line Locks,

didn't even know they existed.

Thanks for the suggestion Brandy Rooster. Looks easy enough to install.

IH8MUD saves the day again. Woooo!

damn it... its bandy rooster... no problem for the help though
- i feel like a comic, that no one can get there name right lol

Split tcase = non stock tranny and probably later model motor too.

Look on the DS of the block to see if it is drilled with holes up front near the waterpump just below the exhaust port for Cylinder #1.

Be aware that line locks are not always allowed in TLCA inspections for sanctioned events.
(but that is changing)

That is a Good, strong tcase.
You could do a tcase disk brake system on it if you wanted to as well.
But I like the LL better...

65-fj45, Mace,

I'll stick with the Line Locks (under $100 with bender and install kit) for now.
$500 for an e-brake is too much for me right now.

Plus I don't plan on any TLCA inspections for sanctioned events any time soon either.
Great info though guys, I didn't do my homework online prior to asking here.
