Hi the carb fan is missing from my fj40. Is it necessary, when my 1973 fj40 warms up, it starts bucking and stalling Runs great when engine is cold Could the missing carb fan help? TIA

I don't think 1973 had a carb fan but I could be wrong.
the fan only ran when the engine was shut off so it wouldn't help while the engine is running

Maybe more of a carb issue itself rather than a missing fan for it!

Don't ignore your ignition system.

The symptoms you are having could be caused by problems with the ignition system also. Or it could be a combination of fuel and ignition. I would check everything with both fuel and ignition.

The carb fan is useful after the vehicle is shut off. The heat sink from the engine causes the fuel to turn from liquid to vapor. Hence the term “vapor lock”. The fan (if equipt) turns on when the ignition is of. It is like a warm summer breeze that keeps the fuel from vaporizing. I am attempting to build three crappy vehicles into one and will utilize a carb fan in the final product. Your issues are not related to the carb fan but something else.
