Thought I would let the group know there is a fella in Abbotsford who is getting the Canadian surplus military trailers on occation, and selling them. They have some rust, and there are dings/bruises in different spots. It is 1st come 1st serve. I know he has 3-4 left right now. I am not getting a kickback. This is where I picked up my trailer, and where Norm just got one.

Fully papered...walk into ICBC with the owner papers and insure.

Thats is really tempting.
I wish I had an extra $800 right now.

Do you mind if I ask a few questions about them?
How much rust is there?
Are they 4 pin or 6 pin trailers (for wiring)?
What is the payload capacity?
How do you find them towing in the offroad? Do they bounce around alot?
How much room is there in them?
What style of hitch are they? Ball or pnito?

What is the number or email of the person to contact.
Sorry for the million questions. I should ask the person selling instead.

Some rust...surface.

Come with military lights and harness, so adapt to that, or go to Princess Auto and get their trailer light/wiring kit for $30.00.

They are rated a 1/4T trailer, however I would suggest that is conservative.

I don't know about the towing thing...off road. They will flip, as the end swivels. There are others who have used them extensively off road, and they can comment from real world experience. My one experience towing on road to Calgary and back from River Shiver is they tow great. Pain to back up, as you can not see them in the trailer. Extending the neck might help...but then, if you loaded it right, they are easy to move by hand.

I've not measured the one I have. If you do a search, you will find lots of information. There is a M101 mailing list on Yahoo for the Cdn trailers, which has load load data sheets.

Pintle hitch style.

They do not come with tarps.

Do your research before phoning...they are the basic trailer that has been floating out the auctions for the last few years.

This guys place where the trailers are being stored is like a grave yard of military stuff... Very intersting, feels like you just entered an episode of MASH...The trailers look and are super cool.
After the sliders are paid for, the next thing is the Military Trailer. Am currently in the process of hunting down a pintle hitch, Stone did the wiring for the trailer already. At my house, I always have "stuff" or a better word JUNK that has to be moved out to the dump....

No tailgate (they are built to float). You could put one in. To me, these trailers are a good foundation, depending on what your end use will be.

Don't have the inner dimensions, nor dry weight. I believe if you do a search here, you might find that information. If not here, then at least in the Yahoo discussion group that is formed around the M101 trailer.

I talked to this fellow in BC around Christmas and he had a couple of trailers.

Yes, they are an option for those close. I had talked to them a while back, but figured for $800.00 cdn, plus paperwork that makes registering them a breeze, coupled with a five minute drive to get mine made sense for me...

I believe they had a bunch sitting somewhere on the prairies at some point too, which would work better for those in that location.

Future Logistics had a bunch out east that were NOS. They were supposed to bring some out here but didn't. They eventually got some to Kelowna, but they were used, not NOS. I think they were selling the used ones for $900?

I believe the dimensions are roughly 6'x4'.

Petra, sign up for Princess Auto's sale flyer, they put those pintle hitches on sale quite regularly. Though if your main reason for one of these is to use as a garbage trailer, you'll probably want to have a tailgate fabbed in.

I'm looking forward to getting home and getting to work on mine. I want to blast and paint it, then it's getting matching 33s on Cruiser rims and a rooftop tent for starters. When it gets hooked up it's going to mean something fun is about to happen!!

Hi Brad. Home and able to measure now: 38"x73"x18" inside the box, with the two long sides angling out near the top to complete 48", so the top rails measure 48"x73". Dunno weight. Any rear gate would max out at 38" if you went right to each side.

Also, I was given the part number for the brake drum/hub assembly a while back by a fella in the USA that switches the bolt pattern to 6 on 5.5...so one can run the same wheels as your LC if you choose. Bruce picked two complete sets from Standen Trailer in Calgary for Norm and I, however neither of us have put them on yet to confirm fit.

I talked to the future logistics guy a couple weeks back. Actually emailed. I was not impressed.

I sent an email to there info address, I asked how much are the trailer and do you have any stock left? I asked cause the site says 800 USD and 1200 Cnd, which I know is bunk now with exchange prices, sure I will pay USD! big savings.

He answered back, Where are located, Rob.? thats it a one liner........ I answered Smithers, I also have USD, Darryl. No answer for about a week. So I sent a letter asking did you get my response cause I did not get yours.

He sent me a letter saying they have no more trailers and that he has a personal one for sale at his house, 1200 CND, and he sent me 3 pictures.

Fishy Fishy Fishy...........Naw, I just did not understand his Logic so to speak.....WTF why does it matter where I am from......Are the trailers only for sale to the US?

Anyhow Greg. I may call the guy you are talking about. I may have to do the drive and get one.

It the perfect size trailer for me. Other than building one, this would suit me just fine, except I need to cut a tailgate in.......no prob.

Rant is off........buyer beware with future logistics. I do not know for a fact they are good or bad.

i know a guy fairly recently that drove from Calgary to Kelowna (not sure if it the same guy but that is the right area) to pick up NOS trailer, called first "yep, NOS in stock" drove out and only had used units there. he ended up buying a used one and brought it back.
he wasn't impressed.
cheers

Picked mine up from a guy outside Edmonton, yup had a few beauty marks, a few dings, unfortunately had to add some rear LED tail lights, but that's it and drove straight to Victoria with it. Probably the best towing trailer i've had to tow, and remarkably well behind "Sacky" the smoking 60. You guys should quit belly-aching and just pick one up, you'll be pleasantly surprised with the results.
Cheers!

Brad, here is the link to the Yahoo Group on the M101's. The main pages lists the trailer details. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/M101CDN/

Try Hat Salvage in Medicine Hat - if they're still going - they used to be the Happy Hunting Ground for Landrover types as they got all the British Army LRs from Wainright and Suffield. Probably got lots of other military stuff as well.
