Thread revive, I know, but...

The factory bar is not straight across the top like the metal tech b-pillar hoop. That would probably account for the taller height with the kid's height.

Correct the stock bars Toyota started putting in mid 74' had three bends. There is a center crown bend and the two outer bends are very large radius's. The main reason for this is they used very thin ERW tubing to make the bars. Like .078, just over 1/16" of an inch thick as in 14 human hairs thick! They had to use large bends to keep the tubing from crushing due to thinning on the outer wall when bending.

To answer the original question from last May, the center bars can go either way. We designed them for the bends to go to the front to match the bubble up of the hard top. However! In the past 12 yrs of building the cages we have learned quite a few people like to put the bends near the B pillar for more head clearance on them. Over 9 yrs ago we added one more step to the process of making the center bars and cut 1" off the bent leg, before we pre-notch this part. This way if they are mounted with the bends toward the B pillar the height of the center bars will not violate the space of the hard top. :D
