Mega Cruiser Military model

Just in case anybody comes across this thread again, I thought I'd throw in a correction. The MegaCruiser in the picture doesn't have a 15B-FTE, (a reasonable assumption since most did) that's a Hino N04C. Though branded as Toyotas, the MegaCruiser was built by Hino (a Toyota subsidiary) and some had Hino engines instead of the Toyota 15B-FTE.

Any idea what transmission it had with the Hino N04C? Always wondered if one of these motors could swap into a regular landcruiser, but the bellhousing/trans to use has all ways been the question.

IIRC, these trucks run the A443F 4 speed slush box.

Yeah, I knew they used that trans with the 14/15B motors; wasn't sure if the Hino motor version had the same trans though. I'd love to see some part numbers on bellhousing/torque converter etc on the Hino version. N04C-T is a fairly easy motor to come across in North America. I've thought of swapping to one a few times now.

Edit: I've been confusing the W04C with the N04C. W04C is the easy one to get. Not sure about the N04C for North America. I wonder if the block's are similar and they can take the same bellhousing....?

I thought they all got the hydro A440 or A442. The L-2-3-D shifter is a clue to look for. Although I guarantee @Onur knows more than me. So now I need to go back and research. 😂

I've figured it out. The later Toyota Coaster models came with the N04C as well. They use a A444E transmission (A44x family). The transmission case is the same part number as all the other A44x cases. There is a bell housing that goes from the N04C to the A44x transmissions. I believe with mixing and matching of factory Toyota parts it is thus possible to mate an N04C to an A442F transmission. Thus an N04C swap into a cruiser is definitely a possibility. 2004-2007 Coaster N04C bellhousing part number is: 35111-65020

There are also earlier model Coasters which were 4x4. They have a special t-case that adapts to the A443 transmission. However these 4x4 Coasters actually use front portal axle reduction (from a Megacruiser I believe).

While falling down the Toyota parts rabbit hole I also found a Coaster t-case cooling cover that will fit regular landcruiser t-cases. This is something I've thought about fabricating from scratch for quite a while. It's Toyota part number 36124-65010.

What's this Coaster with the reduction hubs? The closest thing I've heard of is the Dyna 200 HMV. Sorry I don't know what transmission the MegaCruiser with the N04C ran.

Yes, there is a Coaster for sale in Australia at the moment that has all these attributes. I think they have a 2 speed t/case but only high is connected.
And this one is badged as a HINO @wormfood

Since this was revived... I believe it has become regular practice for the Japanese Guard to come over for various trainings. A few years ago @stinkyfj60 had an opportunity to drive some JDM mil vehicles from or to the Seattle port.

I was just looking a pics of the trucks I drove! Toyota Type 73. Bad ass.

Toyota Type 73.

You could at least have provided a pic to warm our little hearts. Dont bother , I have one here . I think they are a toyota dyna with a different body

I was working so I couldn't find one.

I volunteered to drive them from the Port of Tacoma to Yakima where the JDF does training.

The switches and controls are a mix of various Toyotas I've had over the years.

Front and rear lockers. 37in Bridgestone Mud Duelers. Automatic. Turbo diesel. I drove one like that in the picture and one communications truck. The communications truck was slow as **** because it was way heavy.

In that pick, the vehicle to the left of the truck looks like a Mega Cruiser which the JDM does use. The truck in the back is an Isuzu. I never got to drive those.

According to the internets, the Type 73 Chugata truck is based on the Toyota WB500 truck, not the Dyna as I posted . This one below is badged as a Hino
