Pulled up a search, some say 285's rub some say they don't.

This is for my boss, he is currently running 265's.

What say the CSC experts?

From what Ive seen, it appears to be a 275 70R 17 without getting rubbing at full compression. Maybe some of the FJC guys might have a better idea on the 285's

Thanks Murf,

He told me p265 75r 16.. Did they come with two rim sizes?

Yes, they came with both 16 and 17 inch wheels. The stock size 26575r16 (same as the 26570r17) is approx 31.5" tall.

The 28575r16 is 32.8" tall and doesnt sound like much but know they can give some rubbing at full flex. Unfortunately, there arent any sizes I can think of in between the two like there is in the 17" sizes. You need around a 32.2" tire (which is what the 27570r17 size is) for biggest/no rubbing.

Maybe put up with the 285/16's or find some used 17" FJC wheels and get the 275'/17s?

The trail team ran 33s on stock rigs without issue. A lot of guys are running 35s with 2-3" lifts, I don't know if there is room for them stock. If he's going to wheel it, a lift and 35s is the way to go.

285, 265 designates width, 70, 75 is the height, right?

No he is getting older, and just thought a little more gound clearance might help him get into areas to bag a Turkey or elk. No mods in the future on this rig.

I'm old school, 35x12.50x15 I can understand.:D

Throw a 1 inch spacer lift on it and run 33's (28575r16).

The first number is the width in MM. The second is the height from the rim to tread as a percentage of the width. Ex. a 285/75 is 285 MM wide and 75% of 285 is the height of the tire from the rim. To get the total height, multiply the height by 2 and add the rim size. Clear as mud?:meh:

Lol, why do these folks like to conplicate things?

Thanks for the replies, I am now armed with more info than I needed to know today.:D:cheers:

Its not a big deal to do a body mount chop . Keep it low and chop the mount. That should work fine 285's should not rub , but 2 inch leveling lift in front would add some more clearance and it would be cheap. It really won't lift the door area of the FJ barely more than just the 285's
A chop can be done, both side, in a few hours .
FYI 35's are a little more challenging than just a 3 inch lift and a body mount chop.
I know,, to much info, but it was mentioned earlier and I wanted to chime in about it.

I have been running the 285's on my 17" stock rims since mine was new with MTR's and now terra grapplers I HIGHLY recommend them both 285's and the TG's
