I have seen here lately a few Cruisers for sale that say they are "Numbers Matching". Are they talking about the frame number matching whats on the I.D. plate or are they talking about the engine stamp number matching the frame & I.D. number?

Who knows alot a guys say things to help it sell, probably the VIN number matches color code, trans, and engine for that year model plus any other options, each number and letters on the VIN identifies these along with prod date.
SOR has a break down of these VIN numbers they are probably in the MUD FAQs section also.

The only reason i ask...was that i was looking at the number stamped on my block and even though i know its the original engine, the numbers are not the same as the one on my chassis.

They are not going to be the same....

The early land cruisers had the engine number stamped into the VIN plate until the mid sixties. Wasn't unlil the late seventies before the paint/transmsission/transfer/gears codes started showing up.
