Master cylinder compatibility

I’ve tried searching and I have not found any information pertaining to this. My buddy has a bad master cylinder in his 1998. Will a master cylinder unit from a 2004 swap in?

No, the 98 and 99s only have a single line to the rear brakes I believe, whereas 2000+ have two. There's probably also differences to do with ATRAC.

That kit only fixes leaking at the plunger. Nothing else.
