Hey 'Mudders!

2018 is going to be a big year for us, and one of the things we are most excited about is expanding our product lines. We are posting this poll to see how you guys feel about some of the ideas we've been kicking around.

We are not PROMISING to make any of these products and have no specific timetable, but we are getting a feel for what we can expect from the market. Please only respond to this poll if you REALLY WOULD BUY IT NOW IF IT WAS AVAILABLE. Use pricing equivalent products that are out there for other models of 4x4s to get a sense of what you would be signing up for. Please participate! This info could really translate into real products if you guys want it!

I thought the Toybox splitcase version was already coming back?

Chances are it is, however if we do rerelease it we want to do it right with a couple of improvements to the old unit, and we want to make sure it's worth it.

It is an AWESOME modification that allows you to run taller gears for the street, making the 4 speed a lot move daily drivable. One downside for the 40 series guys is that you don't have a ton of room for a driveshaft already, and doing a Toybox in a 40 will require pushing the rear axle back (a 60 series rear spring conversion with a hanger flip *might* be enough) as well as the removable and replacement of the torque tube behind the transfer case, making it a bigger job for the 40 series than for the 60.

Totally agree that in a 40 with a stockish wheelbase it is tough to fit...for those of us that have extended length wheel bases it's a very nice option to have vs needing to source an entire new non Toyota drive-train to get a doubler.

If you had one on the shelf now then I would buy it today...but it's easy for me to spend money on other stuff while I wait!

F/2F/3F -> R15x -> Toybox -> Split case and some sort of bolt on option for a full floater in kit form (All I need is the adapter plates and axle shafts) would be awesome.

I would have to agree that an R15X kit would be a great upgrade for my 40 with a split case, especially with the ability to upgrade to a lower first gear. I think its 5.15:1? I would love to upgrade my gear set for my splitcase but with 4.88s already I am hesitant to lose some high range, which is why I would also love to see a toybox come back.

I think the 1piece T case gear , (let say 4:1) is much less work to get a good crawl ratio , no driveshaft mod or crossmember relocation and wheelbase change. Plug and play as they say , it give the opportunity to use a taller gear for the street, I dont need a second box , I can use third and fourth gear on the transmission if I need taller gear in low range

Everything you said is true, but it is nice to have the option of the crazy low crawl gears along with the 2:1 ratio from the stock case. For less than overpowered rigs the 2:1 case can come in handy in the sand and mud, especially with stock diff gears and larger that stock tires.

Im still rooting for 32 spline rear axles. While chromoly 30 spline is great, to step it up to 32 spline chromoly would be around 25% more strength over 30 spline and may not be that much more work and may be a great upgrade while someone is installing lockers. As far as I know only the side gears in the differential need to be swapped out as far as sliding them into the differential. But that is only a rumor I heard from australia. Not sure about outer wheel bearings. But this would be a significant upgrade-especially for heavy rigs or those with a heavy foot. Plus nobody has really ventured into the toyota axle that far. Most companies have stopped at 30 spline chromoly shafts. I would think the 60s and 80s especially would benefit. I have only heard of the australian guys venturing this far into the 9.5 axle.

I've heard of this, but honestly it would be a lot of work for little return on investment. Land Cruisers, while we love them and have a couple of Cruiser heads on our team, are only a small part of our business. There just aren't a ton of them like there are in say, Australia, and there are already a bunch of Land Cruiser specialists that make some really good stuff. We are looking into expanding into that area a little more with some new products, but we would never move enough 32 spline conversions to justify the expense. Plus, with a good set of rear shafts, breaking a 9.5" Land Cruiser axle is a bit of a chore, they can withstand quite a bit of punishment.

some sure need crazy low , but for me and the trail i do, a gears set in the t-case is all i need for better control on technical stuff.
my actual set-up is : tpi350 stock 4speed and t-case and 4:56 diff 35'' tires , most of the time it is just find in first and second gear on low range , i don't really use the third and fourth on low range because i just need to shift in high range to get a similar ratio , so my thinking is ,with 4:1 t-case i could use all the transmission gears , if you know what i mean:confused:

also i could go back to a 4:11 diff for lower highway rpm

i was planning for an orion case , but if you make a gear set , i think it could be a cheaper

IMO you are going to continue to see less and less fj40's out on the trail and thus less market for offroad products for them. Since the resale pricing has gone so far up on the restorations of these vehicles most people are not modifying them for the trail. The majority are being snapped up and returned to stock for a higher resale. Just my opinion.

That's a very good point. I believe the loss of Cruisers has slowed down for the same reason. Saved and restored. I did just that several years ago, but I think it's a fairly slow curve both ways. I haven't been a part of the TLCA for some time and can't vouch for attendance but your comment seems logical.

I have to agree with 1973Guppie. There will always be buyers, but I would guess the largest market on FJ40 parts is not the rock crawling parts, but reproduction of improved stock parts.

Alot of 40 with alu or glass body , soa or swaped engine will never go back to stock , it is true the market for lower gear for LC will never be like jeep market .
And if you plan going back to stock, I dont see why you care about marlin crawler product;)

Having just gone through the need to replace my OEM gears in a 4-speed case, and finding virtually no options, I would love to see a one piece gear set on the market so I don't have to keep sifting through used cases until I find a good gear set.

Reduction gears would be icing on he cake!
