Greetings from Afghanistan!

I am here in Sangin, Afghanistan and my 1964 FJ40 is in SoCal. I brought back a 1HD-T from Okinawa, Japan.

I spend all day long thinking about about putting in my engine but I am in need of help. I have been searching but cant find the answers I am looking for.

I have the 1HD-T, H55 with TCase, clutch, fly wheel and the right input shaft. What I dont have is everything else. I am trying to buy parts on here and have them waiting for me when I get back.

What I need to know is what else do I need? I cant really figure out what parts I need that need to be for the 1HD-T and what FJ40 parts will be needed/work.

Thanks in advance.

Which clutch and flywheel do you have?
I cant see anything except the radiator being much good on the FJ40 for your swap.
Do you have the fuel filters?
Is your 1HD T 12 volt or 24 volt? I recommend you switch over everything to 12 volt,if you do that you would need the 12 volt starter, alternator and glowplugs

Do 1HDT's have glow plugs? 1HDFTE use a glow screen.

Hi Devildoglt,
r u the one who is buying the H55 from Ben?
if u r,the l have the tranny here, have to do a swap the transfer from 2H H55 to 1HZ h55,having problem locating a used flywheel,if u r the one l can get u the rest of the parts.

keep an eye on that tranny .. if you don't have the right bellhousing .. I'm not totally clear where did you get that .. ( the tranny ) or if was already matched to the engine ..

The tranny came from 1 HZ engine, and 1HZ to H55 bellhousing.

bits and pieces

motor mounts, tranny mounts, how about the battery tray? probably will need to do a mod to the tray for clearance.

I have saginaw steering and it was close but everything cleared okay

Im using the 1hdt toyota pump running the saginaw box

didnt hook up the glow plugs

got a new alternator

electric fan
(kept the 40 rad)

I have the whole accelerator system from a 60 ---pedal and all

exhaust---how will you route yours?

Bsmith-

thanks for the insight. i am working on getting 1HD-T motor mounts as we speak. there are 80 series land cruisers all over Afghanistan so i am trying to get the mounts here, or japan or wherever. what tranny mount/cross member did you use?

I have a saginaw and i am glad to hear that it worked well. why did you get a new alternator? And what electric fan did you go with?

I am unsure of the exhaust at this point. i was just thinking that i would take it to a muffler shop and let them worry about it.

I put some parts info in here and also a link to crushers 1hz install which is better documented than mine

the trans mount was custom made but the actual mounts I cant remember for sure and different people have used different ones so I dont want to steer you wrong, I want to say not the 60 series ones, something about early ones rotating to one side?

Sorry I cant remember all the details as it has been over a year since I got my parts

I needed a new alt as mine was damaged in the crash that resulted in me getting the eng ---was not part of the eng swap

never found out what fan it was just grabbed off the lot where the install was done---it is a toyota fan I think so probably off a later model cruiser
