Manual steering box compatibility

    Will a manual steering box from a 1978 FJ40 directly replace a manual steering box in a 1969 FJ40?

    My guess would be "no". The steering box was the same from 9/72 through 1984, but those earlier boxes are significantly different.

    I believe they attach at the same place. but the older one has the shaft attached inside the box, as the newer one has a rag joint, so its two pieces
