The horn on my Bj74 will come on all of a sudden and will stay on.

This also happened on my bj60 (canadian spec)

has this happened to anyone else? I'm wondering if this is a common problem and how I should fix it.

Look at the horn button first. If it's the factory steering wheel, the horn cover just pops off. See what might be causing the mechanism to ground out intermittently.

If it's a ricer add-on steering wheel with funky walnut veneer, like I've seen many JDM truck come with, swap it out with a factory unit. :D

take the fuse out, mount an air horn on the roof.

Well, if there's nothing wrong with the switch, the next phase would be to disconnect the horn and put your ohmeter to the plug and ground and see if there is a fault with the wiring. If that checks out, then the fault must be within the horn itself.

Toss it and put in a new unit. I've been thinking about putting in a more substantial horn that has a lower frequency than the OEM unit, although admittedly it's not a priority until the OEM one fails.

If you don't want to go aftermarket, I'm sure parts retailers like G&S Cruiser Parts have a horn or two in inventory to sell.
