Hi any opinions out there on maintenance costs for the different landcruiser series? 60,70 & 80?

Part of the reason I've been leaning towards the 70 series is that they have a simpler, tougher & more basic look therefore perhaps easier/simpler to maintain as well.

Would you say there is some truth to that or is it just appearance?

thanks again

B

teh older 70 and 60 series share the same drivetrain so tough it the same for both
the new post 90 70 series and 80 series share the same basic drivetrain so they are both as tough. (yes the 80 is full time so the front end parts wear faster)

HTHs
cheers

60 is getting dated so parts are getting harder to find BUT that being said with all the 60s brought in the last few years the parts are being replentished.

70 is still being sold today and parts are quite easy to find

80 is lexus so body is easy

oil filters are about the same price

the 70 and 80 share the same fuel filter

air filters are the same for all 3

brakes seem most expensive on the 80 and the 70 and 60 share the same part numbers in most cases

it comes down to wha tyou want to drive, you are not going to save a lot with the different models...

Hey Wayne,

Can you expound on the this statement? Are you referring to JDMs brought into Canada?

Cheers,
Jason

Yes he is referring to JDMS.

Easiest for body parts in North America is going to be the 80.

Although it has never been too difficult to get parts for my BJ60. And I have bought a lot of parts.

ah, I did not know that. I thought that canadians brought in mostly 70 and 80 series rigs. Perhaps I am biased:)

Thanks BB

when the importing trend took off 5 years ago the 60 and 70 were the only ones we were allowed to import, 2 years ago the 80 took off and the 60 became less of a demand.

yes, as BB stated, the JDM 60 series has replenished our depleteing parts source.

When I said easiest would be 80 for body parts I should have said "chassis" parts.

Not just metal, but all items on the truck for an 80 will be easier by far. Corner lights, switches, moldings etc.. All the chassis parts are available at Toyota. Just say 91 FJ80 instead of HDJ81.

Canada only had two years of BJ70's. So all the parts for the JDMs have to come from overseas. Very little junkyard support.

60 series are getting harder than 80's. But since the USA had the 60 series too, there are tonnes of junkyard trucks and aftermarket support. Only diesel engine parts may be difficult to get.

70 series will take more effort to get parts.

As for costs, they are all expensive to own. It is a cruiser.
