So hello everyone, it has been a long time since I have been among you guys. Sorry for that, the road treats us well.

We find ourselves in Colombia these days and I have the opportunity to install a converted compressor to deliver compressed air to a tank for the use of inflating tires and air tools.

The unit comes with an 12 volt magnetic clutch and I am wondering if that can be operated from my 24/12 volt inverter. Or if those magnetic clutches draw to much power?

I had something in mind like this: http://www.grungle.com/endlessair.html

But before I dive into this project I want to know if I need a dedicated 24 volt magnetic clutch [costly and might be very difficult to get here in Colombia] or that I can suffice to operate a 12 volt clutch with the inverter.

I would like to hear your opinions

Adventurous greetings,
Coen

And welcome back, hope traveling is treating you well..

Not sure on the draw, sure its not much with the tiny gauge wire toyota uses.. I have tried with not great success to run a 24 volt clutch off of 12 volts.

Searching the Internet tells me that the average current draw for a 12V magnetic clutch is approx. 4 Amps.

Heya Rudi, so 4 Amps at 12V would be 2 Amps at 24V. -> that would work! Thanks. I'm slowly moving forward with the idea. Any idea where I could get my hands on a crankshaft pully with 3 grooves? I now have just two v-belts, and I think I could run it with a longer v-belt on the existing setup. But optimum would be 3 v-belts.... right?

For your 3B? There's a spacer and a third pulley that bolt onto the 2 groove pulley. Most BJ-60s had them I believe. Any junkyards down there with BJ-60s? Or try a canadian junkyard perhaps?

Hello Dan, I saw that in the workshop manual. Looks like this project would involve more time in sourcing additional pieces than the actual build itself.

I don't have the space to keep all the pieces for that long...

Will see what I can do.

Adventurous greetings, Coen.
