The bad part of Moab is the travel day each way, but the views are awesome on most of the trip! My favorite area is around Mexican Hat, we talked about staying there a night on the next trip and exploring the area. Mexican Hat is a tiny town in the cliff over looking the San Juan river with a population of less than 100 people, there are a couple of hotels, the one that we had lunch at. http://www.sanjuaninn.net/

The two main parks are Goosenecks State Park http://www.americansouthwest.net/utah/mexican_hat/goosenecks_state_park.html and the Valley of the Gods http://www.americansouthwest.net/utah/mexican_hat/valley_of_the_gods.html Check out the unpaved 4WD trail, FR 244, Johns Canyon Rd. in this pic, looks like fun! http://www.americansouthwest.net/utah/mexican_hat/muleypoint_l.html

This pic is cool!

From the highway we saw a few gates with roads to who knows where? The area had a bunch of prospecting and mining, so lots of roads to be explored.

That has to be one of the top 10 most beautiful area's in the world

I am 150% with you, but the good thing is, there are many people who feel this is just empty nothing and should - once visited and photographed - been left to those crazy German tourists :p :flipoff2:

I just like the idea of nothingness on end...........but how deserted can it get when every rural dwelling has at least 6-10 junk cars/trucks piled around them?..........:frown:

Needless to say, Cruiser did awesome keeping up with Kevin and Rob :)

Got back to NE shortly before 5 yesterday afternoon after some 15+ hours of drive time. I'd post pictures of the plains, but they're very - how best to phrase that - plain??

It was great 'wheeling with you, and Moab is just fabulous. I think the 'FJ Blazer' (I had an FJ40 bezel strapped to my front bumper for the Toyota event... :grinpimp: ) did well, but I'm suffering from a serious case of link suspension envy. On the way back, I stopped at the Offroad Design shop in Carbondale, where I got the first glance at a prototype front radius arm suspension for a Blazer - looked very impressive.

Could you please tell Rob not to say "I think I've cracked the ARB..." in my presence anymore? When I first heard that, I thought 'ARB' as in 'ARB differential locker', and got close to a heart attack  , given that we were in the middle of Golden Spike. It later dawned on me that he meant the ARB bumper  Still, everytime I heard it afterwards, I still could shake feeling uncomfortable... By the way, it seems Rob's strategy of intimidating the rocks by hitting them repeatedly with the receiver hitch has worked very well :flipoff2:

I'm suffering from a serious case of post-Moab-letdown, and unfortunately, I have to go to work now

Good to hear you made it home and a big thanks for leading in Moab, your trail knowledge made our visit much more enjoyable!

Why radius arms it seems like a compromise at best? If you going links why not 3 or 4 link it and be done with it?

It might morph into a 4-link, it's still at development stage. I hear it binds at ~14" of travel (not sure where that was measured, though). As I understand it from Stephen, a 4-link might run into a space problem (oil pan/tranny/exhaust crossover, front driveshaft; then again, right now the radius arms are fairly long, so there could be a breakover issue; a 4-link could achieve the same travel with shorter links. Also, I'm not sure whether a 4-link could be triangulated, so there would still be a need for a Panhard bar. The radius arm design with adjustable caster, Panhard bar and crossover steering will be ready for test-driving this week.

What I would want is a linked suspension that would move the axle a little away from the firewall, give me some 4" of lift, and I'll probably be happy with travel in the 14" range - I don't want too much flex because I don't like body roll. I don't see anything bigger than 37's on the truck in order to keep it streetable. But I don't see anything like that happen this summer, it'll have to wait until I've got the dual transfer case situation sorted out.

Sooo...we've seen the pic of the carnage (damn...and I spent an hour on that project just so you could go and break it :)) and Mexican hat...where are the pic's of the rest of the trip?

Check the CruiseMoab Official Pic thread in the events section...

Kevin...we need a report on the front arms with pics!!! Sorry we never hooked up for a run, I ended up running Hells, Behind the rocks and poison spider, had a blast and the cruiser worked perfectly. It was the first really hard test for the set up I have and I was really happy with the performance.
