I did read through all the threads on this, and I taped off with masking tape all seams of the windshield and all seams of the sunroof. I also slid back the roof rack cross member. Still. Howling wind noise at speeds around 40+ mph. I am at a loss for where this whistling can be coming from. The one thing I’ve noticed is if I tilt or slide the sunroof even slightly, the noise seems to go away. Albeit ill hear just the noise from the sunroof being open, but the whistle goes away. Does that explain anything to anyone? Any ideas? The truck is dead silent and smooth otherwise.

This is probably not the answer you want. Get you an OEM wind deflector for the hood, it will solve your problem.

Checked that too. orientation is correct. Maybe if I could get some pics of you guys that have LXes of your roof racks to see what I'm missing. I slid the front cross bar on the roof rack all the way back and now the whistling seems to come from further back. But it seems like its the cross member itself. Though it looks like it's facing the front with its skinnier side. I don't get it.

Yeah definitely don't think the wind deflector is a smart move. Ugly af, and there should be no reason for it if everything is installed correctly. I noticed that by putting masking tape over the leading edge of the first cross bar, the wind noise subsided noticeably. Not all the way gone, but much less. Still can't seem to figure out why though. It doesn't have any visible imperfections or anything.

I know my answer won't help you, but at least you won't feel alone.
I never had this issue, however on the service history of my truck, the original owner went to the dealer several times for "roof rack whistling"
It didn't say what was the fix, but when I bought it there was no whistling.

I can tell you this. I spent months trying to track down a very very faint whistle, almost went as far as to replace a perfectly good factory windshield. I taped everything on the entire truck, removed mirrors, removed roof rack, removed wipers, wrapped parracord around the cross bars, replaced trim covering rivets, taped every inch of the front of the truck, no help. Put on wind deflector and it is dead quite. Is it not cool, yes. Do i hear a whistle, no. Can i live with the wind deflector, yes. Bottom line is you are hearing a disruption of wind, could be a number of things, it sucks.

Ouch man. Haha appreciate the honesty. I guess I might have to eat the crow and get one then. I just want to tape off some more things to definitively conclude that there’s nothing else I could do.

My only one hint that I can’t figure out yet is that when I slightly tilt or slide the sunroof, the whistle goes away. And I don’t know if it’s because it changes the wind deflection and prevents the wind from hitting that rack and stops the whistling, OR if maybe the sunroof drains somehow catch air from wherever they drain to and cause the whistling?!

Just keep testing different things, you will fig it out. With my whistle i could open the sunroof completely and still hear it, same with drivers window. Super faint but annoying, had other people in the truck to listen, they all laugh and said i was crazy.
I have 2 trucks that are over 16 years old, they both have little things that piss me off, i have to just tell myself thats how it is with older trucks.
I want a 40 series real real bad, thats gonna be like going back into the flintstones era, i wont be able to sleep at night.

Haha yeah that’s what got me wondering just how incredible is a brand new 570? I mean I just have this whistling noise, vibration in steering wheel, non working subwoofer. But other then that...
