I've never opened the rear vent windows on my 99 LX470.

Not a lot of information on them here. Are they one of those things that's better left alone (won't seal well again if used much) or are they fairly reliable?

We rarely use the Sun/Moon roof but it does function well and has never given any problems. Don't know if the vent windows are similarly reliable or better left shut?

What say Ye Mud Members with experience?

Yep, I like them a lot but mine are loose and rattle a bit offroad so I only use them onroad for the most part to save wear and tear.
Don't know that I have ever heard of them leaking.

I use mine every day. When I park the truck in the hot Houston sun, I leave then open and it keeps the interior temps down.

I use them all the time. They help out a ton removing heat.

How far do they open?

Are the switches 'momentary' or does the window open and close a prescribed amount (stop via a micro switch). Sorry, for the questions...but I've never operated them and know nothing about how they work.

^^^^^^^ This is the exact reason for my question, I'd like to open them during the day to let the hot air vent out of the windows. I live a couple of hours North of Houston....so we share the same HOT SUN! ;)

Hold the switch down in the "open" position and the vent will open until it stops. Then let go. Same for closing it.

I use mine daily to vent the heat while parked and then close them once I get moving.

My passenger side vent window does not open, or make any motor or clicking noises when i try to open. Is there a fuse for this specific window i can check?

I opened mine and one of the metal strips at the front part of the window developed a crack. Has anyone elss experienced this?

My trim has been cracked for at least the 7 years I've owned it and I use my windows, no leaks no issues other than cosmetic.

If I have a window open and am moving I make sure at least one of these back vent windows is open. It minimizes the, for lack of a better word, "buffering" of the air in the cabin. If your windows are rattling there is a screw you can tighten that connects to the plate on the window but you will need a 90" screwdriver (phillips) or a very shallow small rachette in order to tighten them. I had to hold the plate outside while tightening the screw inside.

That's a mighty long screwdriver! ;)

90°

(alt 248 for degree symbol), just picking at you.

I use mine all the time and love them but have the same rattling. Is the screw to tighten on the rear or front of the glass? Any chance you could snap a pic?

You have to open the window and have to get to the screw by standing outside because if the screw is too loose the plate ( little round button looking thing on the ouside of the vent window) will spin. That is why you need the 90 Degree :)censor:) On my LX the bracket/hinge that attaches to the actual glass on the inside was rattling.

Don't be afraid to use any feature on your LC/LX. If it breaks, then fix it, but don't ever be afraid to use any feature. These are vehicles built to some of the highest qualities that any automobile for public has been built to. To me thats like saying, I know my windows roll down, but I'm afraid to use them because they have a potential to fail. Every mechanical part has a potential to fail, thats how vehicles work.

And if there is one thing I have noticed over the years is that Toyota/Lexus electrical parts usually stand up better to wear and time than other manufacturers.

Mine are open right now, and yes, one rattles like crazy over bumps! Still a great feature for air flow.

Mine rattled until I removed the rear trim and tightened the bolts holding the window on, all good now!
