Torque difference between power on power off could make a difference with binding ujoints.

Please help me understand this term "binding u-joint". What does this mean?

An improperly lubed u joint is dry and when torque is applied it will have a tightening effect that increases friction - thus binding.

WooHoo! Via deductive reasoning; tires, balance, greasing, etc I finally found the problem. I was finally able to get all 4 off the ground today. The front Drive shaft IS bent. I guess always stick to your first impression huh?

My first post...

...However, when I shift into neutral, it goes away. Or when I reduce from accelarating to decel. Almost like an out of balance drive shaft.

Sounds like a driveshaft issue

Thanks again for all the input, you guys are right on the dot with a "noise description from 1000 miles away".

OK... Here is my newest concern.

CAN I DRIVE THIS VEHICLE WITHOUT THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT?

I took it on a test run, and the only think I really notice is:

1) It hesitates a bit on initial take-off
2) Park is driven off the front drive shaft, hence when you put it in park, it still rolls

My understanding, from other's experience, is that you will trash the viscous coupling in the transfer case if you operate minus a driveshaft, unless you first lock the center differential. Center diff locks automatically when the transfer case is shifted into low range. Can be locked in high range with an Toyota supplied center diff lock switch. Your lx450 would not have had a center diff lock switch installed by the factory. One can be added.

You can get one from Cruiser Dan or Slee Off Road. Here is what it looks like on Slee's Site

http://www.sleeoffroad.com/products/products_interior_main.htm

If you order it, order the cup holder while your at it to save on shipping. There is a way to jumper the center diff locked, but you will have to search to find it.

If it were me, I would put the drive shaft back in and drive slow. Order the switch and get a new drive shaft. Try junk yards first.
