LX climate control button repair

Before I make the decision to fork out $300-500 for replacement controls or LC controls (which I would prefer) has anyone successfully reconditioned/repaired their poorly functioning climate control buttons?

mine intermittently function but you have to damn-near punch the buttons to get them to respond. Plus the temp knob spins without registering.

My center console buttons have been working intermittently. This is a great thread on how to replace the buttons. But before tackling the job installing new switches, I thought I'd give it one easy attempt at cleaning the switches. And after a month, I can say it has worked for me. YMMV...

Some guys replace the buttons (requires de-soldering and soldering). I just used electric contact cleaner. It's worked well for quite some time.

Updated that thread. Benefits of cleaning were only temporary. Ended up soldering in new buttons. Works 100% now.

I ordered new soft-touch buttons and used the rubber boots from them. Works great now.

Step 4) Remove tube and then again, with a gloved finger, "work" the switch up/down and in a circular motion. I. Can't. Resist. :grinpimp: :popcorn: Do you have experience with this operation?

If the climate buttons stop working, another option is to put a new stereo system in (only in LX tho' - noise issues with LCs)
