A buddy of mine just bought a 66 Long Bed pickup. It was stated to him in the auction that it is was the only one known to exist, While doing a search on the truck I came across this forum. I noticed that there are several LWB threads and even a registry. Is the model he bought different than the ones posted here and is it really as rare as what has been claimed? Buddy sent this through earlier.

Think he said he was out early, but hit $34k.

Funny how "rare" and "frame off" add so much value.

Ummm. There are quite a few fj45's around. More than his claim of "the only". Still a nice looking truck. That version was for sale between 63-67 in the US.

Probably referring to the soft top, fj45 pickups never had a factory soft top, this truck has a home made soft top with fj40 factory soft doors!

WOW that really sucks. I am surprised Mecum lets them state false information about the vehicle. I watched the video from when he bought it today and even the Auctioneer was barking how its the only one known to exist.

I'm surprised that buyers aren't more informed on these, honestly, but they're "rare" "frame off restorations" and "one of a kind."

Guess it's easy to get caught up in the moment, but surely Mecum is accountable to some degree.

I guess your buddy and mine were bidding against each other.

Doubt for very long.

Couple of 40s ran through at $$$$$$, again, rare restorations with Vortec V-8s.....

Well the good news is your buddy got a sweet 45, but it is def. not the only one, I would gestimate there were 1,000-1,500 sold in the US between 1965-1967. There are probaly still a couple hundered rolling around the country currently.

Also your buddy's 45 is actually a 1965, the vented windshield only came in '65 on the LPBs. Likely it sat on the dealers lot for a year before being sold and titled as a '66. The was common practice on a lot of these early cruisers.

Good luck

Awesome... Only one in that auction? That's what he probably meant to say.. Clearly he was caught up in the moment and not trying to misrepresent something at an auction.

This is from the actual Mecum listing. I for one would NEVER rely on what is posted in these listings, nor barked by an autioneer. As others have said, it is far from being the only LWB in existence.

That said, 45's are definitely rare and cool rigs. Your friend will enjoy their new-found Toy.

Steve
