Next week I'm going to replace all the lug studs. Whats the easiest way to tear everything off and any pointers?

1/2 inch impact gun, PB Rustbuster for pretreating, 5 lb sledgehammer, shop vise, and a friend with a torch just in case. Oh and have the replacement studs on hand.

A shop press to do it right.

Hank is right. Even a little 12 ton Harbor Freight press works well. MAke sure you get the right studs too. My Toyota guy got me the wrong ones so I had to reorder.

You doing the rears?

Agreed, get a shop press. Process is the same as re-packing your wheel bearings but instead you replace the hub studs before re-installing.

you know youll be tearing your front hubs off, and your axle shafts out. So its as good a time as any to do work on the brakes seals or bearings. Front rotors are easily replaced at this point as well if yours are questionable.

The studs arent that bad to knock out and hammer new ones in, Id keep 6 old ones for trail spares (happened to me once), and a few more if you decide you want to build a swingout tire carrier at some point.

I learned it from you, Yeti!

I'm getting ready to do this myself- ordered Mountain Rotors from Partsgeek and new front pads, studs, lug nuts, caliper rebuild kits, etc from Onur at American Toyota.

I don't think my front rotors or studs have ever been replaced or the calipers rebuilt.

I had to have a local shop use an air hammer to get my studs in. We tried with a sledgehammer. Didn't work haha.

Scott, if you want a hand with that, let me know! Gonna do axle seals while you are in there?

I'll load up the press and bring it down. Need to do a road trip anyway. We should do a cruiser night at the drive-in.

Thanks James! We may just have to do that. I definitely need a press for the studs. I've already done the front axle seals (Marlin Heavy Duty), but will probably peak at them while I'm in there. I already have a front axle seal kit just in case.
