Anybody ever done this? It's the same motor but the starters are different, and the LS430s don't seem to suffer from our starter problems on near the same scale.

Neither do 100's made after 2003.

See if the bolts would line up right.

A $180 starter once every 120k miles doesn't seem that bad to me.
