You want him to purchase a less reliable vehicle because he doensn't fit into your idea of what a land cruiser is for?

I suppose you've never thought of or done it up the butt with a girl, right? Because the anus is not for copulation....

I'm sorry for taking your post and picking on you, but I guess I get tired of seeing people bash the newb because he wants a lowered cruiser. Hey, at least he's in one, right? Maybe later on he'll discover off-roading and raise it again. You never know!

Wow Doc, that is probably the most interesting analogy I have ever seen on this forum. I like your twisted thoughts, but (no pun intended) please stay away from my wife.

I still think he should buy an Expedition. :)

 Do it safe way will ya... :flipoff2: Beside get REAL suspension work

Umm, we used to do this with BMW race cars for both autocrossing and NASA. In fact it was quite common for people to cheat in stock classes by cutting coils slightly to get a stiffer rate while still appearing to have "stock" springs (the other method was to buy stiffer race springs, spray them with clear paint and roll them in the dirt to make them look old). If you are are careful and don't over do itthere is nothing wrong with using this method when done in moderation.

There are far more serious risks from improper shock matching with springs and the handling issues created by the panhard rods not being reajusted than by cutting the springs.

P.S. Do me a favor and if you quote me, do so accurately, not by adding you own little emoticons. :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

That car is so "ghetto fab."

I have major pride for it.

It is definately the PIMP RIDE.

Extreme, do you do any of your own custom work? Or do you have garages do it all ? IOW's do you bring any particular skills to the table, or are you just the money man?

Umm... BMW= Bring My Wife or Break My Wallet  :D

Would you care to guess who Ford buys the 4.4L V8 from that resides in your 2004 Range Rover? That would be BMW. :whoops: Since you are so fond of quoting scripture, how about the statement by Jesus "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

Perhaps you should consider knowing what you talk about before you run your mouth. It is obvious from this and other posts that you have made that you run your mouth when you have no experience in the area. How many cars have you set up up for autocrossing and track use? How much time do you have on the track that you can comment on how cut springs work versus differnent aftermarket springs in the same car? How much time have you spent playing with sway bbar settings, camber, and tire pressures to get your car set up properly for the track you are running at? Have you ever run the numbers to compare the spring rates before and after cutting them? I've been there and done all that.

Extreme, ?? did you search for one with lockers? Ever use them?

Stone, do you ever go to Spences Bridge and fish the might "T"?

[Hijack]Speyrod: I have fished the "T" for trout and steelhead, but haven't hooked up with a Thompson steelhead yet. My double-hand skills are newly acquired (2 years), and I hope that all the work will payoff one day with a screaming steely from the "T". :D (That's if that fragile fishery survives the netting.) Are you in BC? Wanna wet a line someday? If so, PM me.[/Hijack]

Dear Cary:

To answer all your questions all this happened while back then 8 or 9 years past
and about the autocross / timetrial i guess you talkin to wrong guy and wrong
time here. I loved the autocross its not about the power but its the driver skills
and your foot work not to let the RPM drop right on the turns, well i used to have
2 cars set up for time trial (Type R and Heavy weight '95 Supra)and i dont spend
my time on track to recommends cuttin on the springs. Its dangerous & change the spring rate. Not even H&R or Eibach would recommends cuttin on the coils.
And yes of course back then i spent time played with setting, camber & tire pressure oh geez i guess i adjusted 5 in the front and 3 in the back? the last question again yes i've done compared the spring rates but not cutting on them.
so i guess i been there and done that also except that was 8 or 9 years ago, which i dont have both cars anymore

This what you want ?

Hi Cary, et al.

I guess my recommendion was wrong. Sorry.

I do have a little bit of experience (I also used to race autocross, solo I + II, do track days and eventually got into rally racing, where I built/drove and maintained a SCCA ProRally car). I do not claim to be an expert but I have played around with suspensions a bit.

I have had good luck with both H&R and Eibach springs, although I used Neuspeed lowering springs on a VW many moons ago. My personal favorites setup on my auto-x car was Eibach coilover springs (with ground control adjustable perches) because I had compete control over the height and balance of the car.

Personally, I always bought springs to match the length and rate I needed as I was counseled by Eibach engineers that cutting springs was not a great idea. Maybe they were just trying to sell more new springs?

Charlie

Stone,

Enough of this lowering crap.

One of the reasons I bought 80 was to get me where I wanted to fish without issue. I used to live in White Rock and still have a lot of friends in the area, but I moved back to the good o'l US of A. I try to get up to the "T" every year. I've been blessed to have success in her silky flows. Trout fishing is also awesome what a gret place to live/visit.
