Loved the LOCKRIGHT, but...

I used to have a LOCKRIGHT on my Hilux. By far the best off road upgrade one can get. But on the road, when turning when turning slowly in parking lots, etc it felt like everything underneath the truck was loose, i could feel like as if everything was moving, from the axle to the transfer case and the typical "jumpy" feel of being locked that almost feels like the engine was failing if you dont press the clutch. My passengers used to think the truck was falling apart. I am sure you guys have experienced it. At first I thought it was only my truck, but drove a few other lockright equipped Toyotas and TJs and they all felt the same.

I want to lock the rear axle on my Prado, but with something that does not affect it soft, car-like ride. ARB is out of the question for budget reasons, plus I like the simplicity of something that just gets installed into the 3rd member with no cabling, compressors, etc. and tha is also affordable... Am I asking for too much?

What about your experiences with the EZlocker or Detroit?

thanks in advance for your comments

All those automatic lockers are garbage. Sure they work for off road, but unless you drive to work/school in the dirt, stick with the LS.

just my opinion.

I have been pleasantly suprised by my Auzzie locker when daily driving my BJ60. Much depends on the intitial setup. I like my cable lockers better though :D

With any lunchbox or full time locker there will be some compromise...

I have been told by Lowenbrau that the Detroit is the way to go for a permanent locker. That being said, it is virtually the same price as the ARB.

Used E lockers out of tacomas are pretty cheaps these days.... not sure if they're availble in Chile?

Tacomas are very rare here. But we use ebay with PO Boxes in Miami all the time, then the stuff gets forwarded to Chile.

4runners are pretty common but I have yet to find out if E-lockers were an option in our market, (doubt it-but will check)

Never seen someone wheel a runner in Chile, maybe once or twice at the sand dunes, but no real wheelin.

I had a Detroit in my daily driver 84 BJ42. It is a bit noisy and clunky and took a bit of getting used to, but after it settled down, or broke in or maybe I got used to it, I found it completely seamless.

Sure there was the occasional bangs when you least expect it, but that probably only occured once in a blue moon.

I loved it because it was solid, durable and I knew that it was always there when I needed it. Certainly manual lockers are more flexible but there is nothing to really compain about with Detroits.

I had a full detroit in my hilux and never had the clunking and banging I have now with my new truck and a lock-rite. They were pretty much silent unless you stepped on the gas going around a corner then all you got was tires chirping.
