I saw one of these on the way to work this morning. Anyone know much about them?

It looked good, and when I checked KBB.com they are less than $50k.

Super nimbe, and IIRC they're running a toyota motor sourced from the celica...

Got a buddy in CT with one, very impressive cars.

I saw one once. Very nice and my friend I was with told me they were affordable. I think he told me they are very stripped down as far as interior goes. Not even carpet.

There are two versions available, as told by my buddy with one. One version is stripped down like Mloudy says, the other is more plush. sound deadner, etc... weighs more, less agile, but not much.

on speed vision they always pair those with the honda s2000 and porsche boxster (and the like) -- IMO i'd rather get the honda and have peace of mind re: reliability -- oh, wait, i already did

i would like to see one on the highway to race tho.. errr, i mean track ;)

    Vehicle Highlights
Gas Mileage: 23 mpg city / 27 mpg highway
    Engine: 4 Cyl, 1.8 Liter
    Transmission: Manual
    Drive: RWD
    Doors: 2

Looks like a nice setup, but as Tea LC says, the S2000 might be better.

The S2k is certainly better looking.

Great vehicle, extremely fast, great handling, it is just super fun to drive. I know couple of people here in Miami that have them. I think is a car for track days. Price start at 43K or 46K (cant remember) and then everything else is optional, like carpets, A/C, radio and so on.

    Check it out here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/downloads/ and click the link that says Apache vs. Lotus.

I saw one the other day too. Pretty neat little car and not priced too bad. Rather put the money toward something else though

Have you ever seen an Elise in person? They are, by leaps and bounds, one of the most beautiful vehicles on the road. Make the S2000 look like a plain jane Accord.

Here's a good story about driving one across the south:

    http://automobilemag.com/reviews/convertibles/0503_lotus_elise/

Power is from a Toyota Celica engine tweaked to around 190hp (enough to make a vehicle this light hit 60mph in under 5 seconds), and the transmission is a Toyota six speed.

Reliability has yet to be a concern.

Wait until you try to fit in one. I needed to contort myself to get in it, and then they couldnt lower the top. (I am 6'1" and 220)

It has the highest skidpad (lateral g) numbers of any production car... I have watched them run the road course at Bondurant.

My preferece would be the S2000 though. The limited track time I have had with one made me a believer. It is a 1200 ninja with a seat belt (and even a small trunk...) ;)

Yes, and they are too 'busy' for my tastes. Too many gills, slits, lights, fins, etc...

The S2k is smooth from fore to aft.

I appreciate the car for it's handling abilities and technological achievements. But- I don't think it's more attractive than the S2k.

The S2k is also a very nimble road machine, not as much as the Lotus, but it's no pig either.

If I were buying a sports car, that'd be the one I'd get. I like the Honda, the BMW Z4, etc...but the Lotus is a Lotus. Not much sticks to the road like a Lotus (even the old Elans, etc) - and with a Toyota motor in it, you'd be able to add big, crazy turbo chargers, super chargers or whatever else you'd want. Probably do it a lot cheaper than anything else, too.

I've been drooling over them since they came out in Europe...Opel makes one similar that is supposed to be much better, but I like the looks of the Lotus much better. Plus, the lotus is much closer to what I consider a "Real Sportscar" - but I've got a Triumph TR6 out in the garage, so what do I know? :D

Yeah, I guess I just see so many S2000's round here that they've kind of gone stale in my eyes.

The Elise I saw was black, therefore all the fins and things you speak of were color matched and stuck out less.

Looked like pure sex to me.

I've been considering buying one since they came out too. But at $42k+ its kinda steep for what it is. I'd definitely take one at $30k. It's a Toyota drivetrain. Not too many electronics. I'm not worried too much about the reliability.

Nearby to where I live is Forcedfed. 1900lbs and 275hp!!

    Wrench...fire control...electrician...

Funny thing is, the TR6 was always considered a "muscle car" to the British purists. 2.5L inline 6 with scads of torque was just so "American Market" -- kind of funny, really. :D

Regarding the Lotus--if I could afford one, and could fit inside it, I'd own one pronto. I saw one at the Houston Auto Show and was floored by it. I came to my senses later; however, for a while there I was wondering which Land Cruisers to get rid of to afford such a car.

A Lotis dealer just opened up down the street from me .
They have about 8 sitting out front (very small lot) but they also are a big repair and resto shop for some really cool euro stuff.
Neat looking car other them that I have no clue .
