Hey folks,

I have few Q's for you guy's. I have an 88 fj62. And overall I love it. I'd prefer a standard (don't we all) power is OK and the mileage is bad. But for a vehicle that was only supposed to get me by for a year as a play toy. It's now my DD and family go getter. I had to invest a total of about $200 over 3 years. Got to love that.

So to the point. The rockers are getting kinda bad, I have a 1/2 broken leaf in one of my packs and the rear lift gate is rotting around the window. It has 280K and the wife is afraid to drive it. Lastly with 3 kids it's getting kinda tight in there. There are no shoulder harnesses in the rear for the kids and my 11yr old has to ride up front.

Ford chevy they have nothing to offer me.(maybe a pre 90 burb) So I thought a 4runner v6 std. Then I started to look into 80's some have really dropped into my price range. Under 5K.

So is an 80 gunna be larger inside? Don't some come with jump seats? Perhaps a little more refined for family life. How do the 91-92's compare in drivability to the fj62's. The same?? I know this is a touchy question but are the 93 up any better?

You folks that have made the switch from 60's to 80's regrets???

I'd really lile to keep the 62 but I've pretty much made up my mind to move on.

thanks

Yep. Shoulda done it several years sooner. :) I had an '83 FJ60. Seating is better, most have 3rd row jump seats so you can seat 7. I took 4 adults and my 2 kids wheeling with all our junk. Nice. There is a lot of reading you can do to get educated, like the FAQ here and the guide on Slee's site.

So, the fj80 has the same specs as my 62 but 100lbs+ heavier and auto locking hubs. How much does that hurt the performance? Or is not noticable compared to the 62? I'd really like a little more power but I realize the cost on the Z80. Parts and inital vehicle.

Kaderabek, good point but, I'll probably only get a 20min feel for the thing and if I can use the experience of this forum all the better. Besides I'm a impulse buyer, That's how I got the 62 I have now. It was well taken care of before I got it, just the timing was off a tooth and it had a vacuume leak. My intentions were to fix and or part it out. That's when I had lot's of time and a lot less kids/house.

I don't have to decide or even think about it until next spring/summer or if this one dies.
