All right, initially I posted this in the internation section because I thought it would be better placed there (trying to stay local). However, after 18 views (and no responses) in almost 2 weeks I thought I would try here.

Anyways, I am looking for a rear drawer for my 80.
Something to store gear in and sleep on.

I was going to build one, but then I thought, a lot of the JDM 80's seem to have them. Maybe someone on the board got one and does not want it.

So if anyone has one that would be great.
If so please let me know. I would be interested.

If you do have a drawer, but don't want to sell it, I would still love to stop by and see it if I was in the area.

Thanks all,
Nick

Did you post in the JDM section? The international chat room doesn't get any traffic, it just hold the sub groups for the BC JDM cruiser clubs.

Why is your rig different than a FZJ80 for drawer stuff? Those guys talk about this stuff too.. You HDJ80 guys need to make a presence over there too. If you start getting enough threads in there, then more of you will use that area. Catch 22. You need threads in there to get the JDM 80 owners in there.

I understand the audience part, as you are trying to hit the JDM crowd. But this is supposed to be an engine/elec spot. Oh and import stuff. 90/120 series.

If the JDM alliance section isn't working, maybe it needs to be moved out of the club section. So not many threads there? I hardly ever look at that spot as I don't own a JDM.

I also don't find the 60 section gets my questions answered somtimes as they are specific to da North. What to do?

But you can also post "wanted drawer for JDM 80 in Southern BC" in the diesel JDm section. Then guys also volunteer info in there too.

Hello Brownbear.

Your right. I do need to post in the other sections more (for me that would be the 80's). And truth be told I should. Feel free to move this to the JDM section.

I was just trying to reach this demographic of people (BC+Alberta).

To be honest, I find the 80 section very cleaky. People don't seem to care much about newb's to the section. Even the admin's ignore your comments. I have asked them questions within their posts, and people just reply to their friend. This is not your fault. Just somewhat frustrating.

Unfortunately. we are in a conundrum. As the size of the forum and members grow. People stick to their friends more and more. Which then in turn keeps us in our sections.

In all honesty, I would think over 50% of the posts here are personal, and not tech. Even with tech posts, we all carry on our conversations in one way or another. Sure we contribute to the tech, but we are also chatting. Mud is for the most part a group of guys who hang out over the internet. We just share a common passion: land cruisers.

Maybe we could revamp how we work things?
Just not sure how. I will give it some thought.

Cheers,
Nick

Thanks Nick,
I see how you feel about it. The thing is, how many hdj81 owners do you think are on here? I am not sure. If there were many hdj threads in there, then you jdm owners would be moving in there, and would be responding to each others threads. On the hand it would also be somewhere when you logged in that you would check out for other interesting threads..

I know some threads have little tech, and there is many bC Alta guys on here. Lets see what they think.

Nick,

I've seen pics of HDJ81s with "camping kits" in the back, but none of the ones that I've seen are drawer systems, they're more like a shelf system. They're well designed for carrying weight above, but not well designed for accessing storage below. Here's a pic of the one that came in mine:

I'm sure that you can do better. I've seen a couple of nice looking drawer systems on the 80s forum

Hey Nick, I responded to you personally, but just for others benefit, it might be worth calling Marko at Outback. I know most people pull out the OEM japanese drawer set and I'm told Marko has a bunch in his warehouse. Worth a quick call.

There is an OEM drawer set?

Well, now that you ask, I'm not 100% sure it's OEM, but many of the JDM81's come with what they call a "camping kit" and the kit has a kind of bed and pull out drawers underneath. Nothing like an outback set but they are serviceable. Most seem to pull them out though. I found they took up a lot of room (they were quite tall).

I think I will just end up building one.

That's probably the best and possibly cheapest route.

I used to have a bed in mine but I took it out as it became difficult to store stuff in the back that didn't threaten the back passengers heads. The bed was well designed to give a perfect fit over the folded back seats, but the space beneath was a clumsy reach and clearly needed drawers that slid in and out like filing cabinets. In the end, I decided I needed the space more than the bed and so took it out.
