My rig has the soa already but when I went to the local shop they said that I needed 10" rims and that the backspacing would be 4" for the standard 10" steel rim. I went through other post on backspacing already and not only found the summit link for the cheap craegers with 2.5 backspacing but came away thinking. That's for 12.50 not 13.50. Would the backspacing be the same with this one as well? I know it is only about 1/2" each side...so would it make a difference?

Also, I plan on doing a rear bumper swing away for the spare. Due to size and weight, I would think that it would be better if I chose a rim/tire that was the same height but different width.

Thanks,

backspacing is a requirement to clear drums/calipers/tie rod ends and has nothing to do with rim width. Assuming nothing is hitting, measure what you have now. Most aftermarket wheels have about 3-5 mm less backspacing than FJ40's require so shims or spacers have to be used.

Regarding your second question, it is entirely up to you. Arguements can be made both ways. I did this and regret it cause it looks kinda stupid not matching the others. It's going to take a study carrier to hold that large a tire/rim.

I ended up with 1.5" wheel spacers to clear the 4runner calipers I've got on the front of mine

I run 35x13.5 krawlers on 8" wide 2.5" BS wheels.
