Greetings 80 series folks. I am driving an hour and a half to check out a ‘97 fzj80 tomorrow. I don’t know the ins and outs of 80 series like you all so thought I’d check in for any “make sure you checks”. I have viewed the 80 faq page and watched the vehicle inspection video. Obviously, I’ll know a lot more after crawling around it and driving it tomorrow, but here’s what I know now:
-Center Diff Lock
-Excellent interior (especially for a leather interior)
-200k miles
-good paint (no clear coat peeling)
-no leaks (according to seller)
-he bought one year ago from original owner. Bought for his daughter but she found something she likes better, so it basically just sits, so time to get rid of it.
-I see zero modifications and he knows of none, never been wheeled according to owner.
-he says original suspension is in fine shape
-says will need an exhaust system before too long
-says will need running boards replaced
-says drives like a dream and I don’t think it’s BS
-there is no visible rust on exterior, but I don’t know about underneath.
I am not looking to turn this into a trail rig right away, my 40 serves that purpose. It would be a dd for my wife for a few years, til she tires of it and is ready for something else, then we have an 80 in the fleet.
Any “look fors” for a ‘97 80 or other advice?
Thanks folks!! I will let you know the end result
