How hard is it to install a lunchbox locker in the rear?

You looking at the GX? Not 100% sure if there are any odd thingies in that rear diff, but i don't think there are. All that to say, should be pretty straight forward.

Jack up and put on stands
Pull tires, rear calipers and rotors
Drain rear diff
Unbolt axle retainers and pull shafts
Unbolt drives haft (may want to loosen before pulling shafts)
Drop out diff

This is where it might get above a pay grade or 2.

I believe the GX has a closed carrier like the old v6 rear diffs, meaning you have to actually pull the carrier out of the case and separate the halves to get to the spider gears. If your not comfortable disassembling a diff, then you probably want to take it somewhere for this part.

If you decide to send it.

Mark the caps, then pull the caps and drop out the ring gear and carrier. Im not 100% sure if you have to pull the ring gear off to separate the case halves or not, but if you do, mark the gear and the case to get it back on the way it came off.
Split the case open and gut it of the spider gears and drop in your lunchbox.
Reassemble the carrier and ring and drop it back into the housing.
I'd set everything back to exactly where you took it apart at, but if it was me, I would verify the backlash and check the carrier bearing preload.

once your happy with that, then reassembly is reverse order.

I'd run it for about 500 miles or so and then drain the fluid and refill.

Should be good to go after that.

Clear as MUD?
