How long will a Lock Right last in a DD rig?

The reason I ask is that I put a Lock Right into my DD FJ40 about 2 years ago. It's worked very well for me. However, recently, Its more spool than automatic locker.

Meaning that when I go around a corner, I get tire squeal.
Whats weird is that if I do a U-turn, I don't get the tire squeal.

So, all things being equal, how long will it last?

Thanks!

ratcheting = wear as the teeth skip...

staying spooled = no wear on the locker, just on your tires :D

they work under load, so an unloaded/low-powered situation like a u-turn should cause it to ratchet...."power" thru something like that it it should spool up tight.

I have known them to last several years (more then 5) but never owned one until now. I am curious, could the springs need to be replaced?

This is more driving technique than a problem with the locker. You won't have any tire squealing if you either:
1) keep steady pressure on the accelerator through the turn. OR:
2) keep steady deceleration thoughout the turn.

If you accelerate before the turn is finished, the Lockrite will switch drie sides and cause tire squeal.
