I did the search - but could not find this anywhere. My 1995 does not have a lock on the rear door (meaning - I cant unlock it from the outside with keys). I've noticed others have a lock there by the rear wiper (96 and 97 models) I checked the faq and buyers guide - no mention. Did 95's not come with it?

Don't recall ever seeing one without a lock. can you show a photo of yours.

When I was eradicating rust from the rear tailgate of my ME '92 a couple of years ago, the attempt involved an OEM, NIP Australian tailgate from cruiserparts.net. In addition to a few dents, scratches, etc., it came with far too few holes. No rear wiper hole, no rear washer hole, no rear defroster holes, etc. I suppose that in a similar situation, someone else may have simply chosen not to install the external lock. You did check under the little hinged metal part, right?

Oh yeah, it's already rusted again. I *do* have a lifetime warranty from the place that painted it, though. Looks like it will be one of these every-three-year things untill they kill me and my lifetime warranty expires.

Oddly enough - my avatar is a shot of my rear door - but the snow covers the area. I just checked it again. No sign of a lock. Just the rear wiper in that area. I do know that the lower part was re-sprayed from an earlier accident. Dont know about the top. Should be a lock there - right?

Yep. I don't have one of those. No logo-no lock-just paint.

don't have one of those? hummmm. interesting. PO may have shaved it off? Previous accident?

strange
I say it was left out by a body shop when they did the other work . you can always take the upper gate apart and see if it was filled in from the other side

I guess I'll have to look inside and see. Seems odd that a body shop would fill in that hole? So - were saying that all 95 cruisers came with this lock? It's not a deletable option or something odd like that?

I've never heard of a lockless gate either. Very strange.

If you're just looking for a way to open the tailgate from outside it might be easier and cheaper to just install wireless entry.:zilla:

Show us a pic, you tease!! :D

Sorry - Im at the office!! I'll take a pic tonight and ppost it - but all youre gonna see is a stock tailgate with the wiper arm and no lock. Im not concerned about getting in that way (although it would be nice) - I just wanted to know why I didnt have one!:)

I have never seen one without a lock. not that I use mine (keyless entry) but from what I have they are all still there, withotu power locks with would be quite a pian to have to crawl to the back and unlock the liftgate

I'll take a look tonight and report back...

maybe I have one of those special order vehicles!;) ;)

If it does not have that cylinder somebody has removed it and filled the hole.

NICE!! Thats what I needed. The definitive answer. Alright - then my truck must have taken a large hit in the back which required work on both the upper and lower rear door. They didnt replace the door - they just bondoed it up. I have no idea why they didnt put the lock back in. Maybe they were just cheap. Sucks for me...

Another mystery solved.....
