I am about to do some extensive North American travels in my 80 series. I will have some fairly expensive electronics with me, and am concerned about theft. I plan to make a drawer type setup for the back. In addition, I wanted to have some type of metal or aluminum lockable box that I could bolt down in the back of the cargo area. In theory, if someone was to break into the vehicle, they would still have a heck of a time getting into the lock box. Anyone have any ideas or have done anything similar?

For a cheap solution, you can take an old ammo can, bolt it to the floor, and put a lock on it.

When I drove across Africa, I had a hole cut in the floor, welded an ammo can and called it good. It had a lockable lid, plus is was hidden under the driver-side floor carpeting, or it might have been rear passenger driver side....can't remember. Anyway, it was hidden, tough to get to.
