I have a UZJ100 I picked up 9 mos ago. No rust anywhere else, really. Noticed a whistling last night while on 35 N headed to Fort Worth (The only time I ever get above 75 mph). Started inspecting and noticed the dreaded bubbling in 2 spots (about the size of a half dollar maybe) on the paint above the windshield. I'm pretty sure it's not an OEM windshield after looking closely and after reading numerous threads on here, learning how important windshield replacement technique is.

I'm assuming it's going to need some rust removal/repair on those spots and probably in some smaller unseen spots....and probably a windshield, new hardware etc. I think they did use rivets but to my eyes, looks sorta sloppy. Lived most of it's life in Utah.

Any one have a local Cruiser shop or trusted wizard that does this particular type of stuff? I use LC Specialist so far for her check ups and things but does LC Specialist do this stuff too? I'm not sure if this counts as "body" and how much body stuff they do. I did read a thread that they might have a guy they use. It's Saturday morning so they aren't open to call till Monday and I'm up in FW. Just wanted to get some suggestions from local LC folks that know way more than I do.

I'm sorta freaked out and hoping it's not too bad. Def not something I can tackle alone at home so that's out of the picture.

Thanks for suggestions and experience.

Update-Somewhat resolved. For anyone interested, Edwin no longer has a guy that will do the windshield replacement/rust work in house. However, he does have a guy "up the road" that he likes to use for body work, etc. So he sent me to him. Will be dropping off in a week. His estimate seemed to be on the mid to low end based on older comments I've seen here on the forums about this type of work. I'm hoping that he won't find too many issue once he gets the glass off....

Just picked up an '02 two weeks ago and thought about replacing the windshield and having the rust fixed. If you don't mind about how much was your estimate?

Well, I'm in a different state and results may vary wildly but the initial quote was aprox 1000-1200. However, it's understood that once the glass is removed, more rust could easily be revealed so that rate could change. I drop it off this Monday (in 2 days). I just want to deal with it now while I can rather than just sit on it and know it's under there, eating my LC. Good luck.
