This thread will serve to compile our recommendations for LOCAL shops, mechanics, parts and tool suppliers, along with any other services we may use such as blasting and coating.

FELIX - Please sticky for me once you find this.

Bolts and Hardware:

TSC - Tractor Supply Company Tractor Supply Company - Home They have various locations in our area, usually found in outlying areas such as Warrenton or Mt. Airy. They sell graded bolts by the pound for reasonable prices along with fluids and winching and recovery supplies. They carry welding supplies, gas and consumables, tools, and many other products we use. They are one of very few places you can get your welding gas bottle exchanged on a weekend! If you have never been to a TSC, make the pilgrimage!

Fastenal Home | Fastenal A supplier of nuts and bolts and fasteners or all sizes and grades. Large selection of metric! They have retail stores in Rockville and other locations in the area.

Applied Applied.com Industrial Supply, Industrial Bearings, Material Handling, Power Transmission, Fluid Power Products | Applied Industrial Technologies | Applied.com | Applied.com This company specializes in bearings along with other industrial products. They can make custom hydraulic hoses on site and sell many OTC bearing related tools also. If you need a bearing for your Land Cruiser they probably have it on the shelf and if they don't, can get it to you the next day usually. They have a retail store in Rockville almost within sight of the Fastenal with other locations in the area.

Stuck.

I'll second John's recommendation for Fastenal and add that there's a location on Calvert St. in Alexandria, about 1/4 mile south of Taylor Toyota.

Most of mine are NOVA Based, I do all of my own work so these are mostly vendors and sources. Like John Smith, I also like TSC, here are a few of my favorites:

Welding - Arcet Equipment on Euclid in Manassas. Charlie, Chuck, Devon and the gang are amazing. I've learned more from them that I did in welding school. Every time I go there, I learn something.

Steel - BMG Metals in Manassas. Great prices and free delivery if you meet the minimum order. Saves the hassle of cutting stuff up to take it home.

Steel in MD (and Tools) Posner Industries.

OEM Toyota Parts - Browns Toyota in Glenn Burnie has a great mail order parts department.

Power Coating - Extreme Power Coating in Springfield/Lorton and Goose Creek Finishing near Leesburg in Waterford. Does small sand blast jobs but not major ones.

Paint - Vienna Autobody. Chris is a nice guy.

Radiator and Gas tank reseal/repair Dolphin Auto Repair 703-750-0985

There is a Czech guy in Manasas that does alternators and starts, I'll dig up his info. Jim took his HJ45 starter there and it worked out great.

Speedshop - Power House - Bill Mathis

Sandblasting and Powdercoating - Sandblast America in Manassas, ask for Jeff (703) 392-5570 For you restoration folks, he can sand blast and primer.

I'm currently looking for someone who does plastic media blasting and or dry ice blasting in the area. There used to be some outfits but they have closed.

There used to be a chem dip place in Upper Marlboro Md but not anymore as far as I know? Anyone?

Tires- Costo for BFG! But bring the wheels off the truck or you'll find their a stickler for OEM size. Just tell them it's for a vintage WWII Dodge Command Car.

Tires- Super Swamper - National Tire and Wheel in Wheeling WV 1-800-847-3287 ask for Carl. You get the tires in two days and they have cheap shipping and no sales tax. I have them mounted at Costco, BJ's or Sam's club. I've been buying Super Swampers from them for 24 years. Great vendor. Also sells Skyjacker, etc.

Snapon Tools -Mike Cole 703-929-3835

Matco Tools - Billie Creed 703-203-7086

Rust Repair - Georg's Automotive Restoration in Great Falls 703-969-1715 this guy has a college degree in Automotive Restoration. How cool is that? Fair prices and good work. He works on my friend's Model A and is a Ford Specialist but if you go there, there are all sorts of cars being worked on.

Out of the area:

Marksoffroad.net used parts, cool stuff and OEM/Aftermarket new. The guru.

Carbs, Mark above and Jim C. both on this board.

Bodies - Todd and Domineke at Aqualu are super nice people.

SOR.COM the Home Depot of Land Cruiser parts. Not the best prices, not the worse prices but they have everything and then some.

Eastwood.com - restoration supplies. I like their rust encapsulator paint.

Autobody Supplies: Mattos locally or Auto Body Toolmart - Paint Booth, Shop Equipment, Dent Repair Tools online

Great Local Toyota Mechanics

Josh Thronton - Miller Toyota Manassas.

James Leonard - Small shop in Front Royal but spent a lot of years at Fairfax Toyota and has 20+ years of experience as a pro wrench. Solid guy that I've known since 3rd grade. His cell number is 540-622-7461. Email is jaml70@aol.com

All that info was sweet, I just moved back here after being away for six years. Any other places to get bodies besides Aquala, new or used? Thier's do seem to be pretty cheap by comparison to other places I've seen. I'm trying to crunch some numbers and see if I've got the scratch to do a frame off to my 1973 FJ40.

Chris

Iron Pig in Fredericksburg sells Heritage Sheet Metal steel bodies...I hear they are close to stock, but perhaps missing a few captured nuts, depending on the model year you are replacing.

(Heritage Sheet Metal)

Anyone have a local source for plastic waffle board?

Besides shopping carts

* honeycomb fiberglass reinforced plastic is a better description

Btw, i'd be making half doors and a tailgate out of the material for the fj40, then skin them both with thin sheet metal. I'm thinking light, durable, and super cheap.
Not for use as a sandladder.
In my 'research' i've found that the shopping cart lines almost match the fj40 door lines.

didn't want to post the pic in the sticky, but just follow link.
