Yes... well, bad luck and driving aside, Cam and I have both seen the cross-section cut of the Duratracs vs. the MTRs, and the sidewall difference is very noticable.

Then again, I've also seen a small rock go right up through the TREAD of a nearly new MTR and cause a flat. On an active FSR. :(

I may consider a BFG MT if I can get them siped.

You can get into some interesting sizes if you go to 17 inch rims !
I would double check the sidewall's 90% of the websites I am reading say the dura tracs have 2 ply poly sidwall's if you go on Goodyear's web site they Don't say how many ply's the tires are where as all of the tire brands that sell 3 ply's state that they are 3 ply's which leads me to belive the dura tracs are not 3 ply's .

Here is a pic of the Nitto, get these siped and your golden .

This has been covered already the Duratrac in a load range E is a 3 ply side wall. My 315's the same as his are 3 ply. My friend has 235/85R16's and they are 3 ply E rated as well.

The letter on the sidewall has nothing to do with how many ply's it has ,the letter refers to how much air pressure can be loaded in a specific tire ! Good year Dura Trac's only have 2 ply sidewalls 99% of lt tires are 2 ply's only specific tires get an extra ply ! If you can show me some documentation on Goodyear Dura tracs having more than 2 ply sidewalls Ill buy you a case of beer !

Sweet ill take a case of Stella. How about a pic of MY side wall on MY 315/75r16 Duratrac? Would that work for you?

And if you want stronger side wall, get the 4 ply bias swampers!:hillbilly: Currently daily driving my 36 TSL's with rear aussi locker on icy FSJ roads, it is doable if you don't mind the odd little slide and a little truck shaking as it's too damn cold for the tires to warm up and get rid of the flat spot :hillbilly:

I didn't picture you drinking stella's ! I saw you as Lucky Lager kinda guy ! Show me some proof that Goodyear Dura tracks have 3 ply sidewall's. Acording to everything I have read even a large number of heavy duty tires have only 2 sidewall ply's . The load range ratings on today's radials only compare to a bias ply equivalent - so when you see load range E 10 ply that is the equivalent of a 10 ply bias tire. This page on Tire Rack explains quite a bit .

The side of my tires say Sidewall: 3 ply. I can take a picture and include me holding a newspaper if you still don't believe us, but then you'll owe me a case of beer too ;) But I don't drink Stellas.

What they don't say is what the sidewall ply is made of. I am thinking paper mashe hehe.

What about Toyo M-55's ? I think they are being discontinued but they are a severe duty tire I know they are used by fleets and you can get them in a tall skinny metric. 255/85R16

Ooh, very interesting. Thanks! I will check them out later tonight. How hard would they be to get a hold of if they're being discontinued?

They were still available as of Nov. I spoke to Troy about them at Country Tire to get an idea what i might by this spring/summer. He can order them in quickly but they are expensive.

Her is a decent article on the Toyo M-55 I thought it was being discontinued but Tire Rack is just going to stop carrying it.

Interco is having production issues. Also with the Trxux. I've been waiting since September for LTB-208's.

Chris, we are so sorry for the delay, we are hoping to have the LTB’s back in production in March, we are sorry, the plant had a production delay, please keep in touch for updates. Thanks, Pattie

When I got my Truxus MT's in 06 it took 3 months for them to show up, same excuses. I do not think Interco actually own a tire plant I think they wait for openings in other manufacturer plants and then uses there own molds to make there tires. Its seems to be a continual thing with them, always on BO an always held up with production delays.

Get some PBR they are all the rage now and you can have them in a few days for less.

get Pitbull Radials and be done!
not bias if you want to street drive
We've sold several sets, reviews are good
no snow flake symbol on them but they work great in the snow for me so far
You can get decent size tires in 15" wheel sizes unlike most other tire companies

No question the M55 is a great tire - but not in 35" - max 33" in 285 16"

FYI

I think part of the confusion is explained below. My reading of this is that 'load ratings' are now given an equivalent "ply rating" which may not be the actual number of plys. According to Tirerack ...

"The load range or ply rating branded on a tire's sidewall helps identify how much load the tire is designed to carry at its industry specified pressure. Light truck tires use load ranges that ascend in alphabetical order (letters further along in the alphabet identify stronger tires that can withstand higher inflation pressures and carry heavier loads).
Before load ranges were adopted, ply ratings and/or the actual number of carcass plies were used to identify the relative strength with higher numeric ratings or plies identifying tires featuring stronger, heavier duty constructions.

Today's load range/ply ratings do not count the actual number of body ply layers used to make up the tire's internal structure, but indicate an equivalent strength compared to early bias ply tires. Most radial passenger tires have one or two body plies, and light truck tires, even those with heavy-duty ratings (10-, 12- or 14-ply rated), actually have only two or three fabric plies, or one steel body ply."

I think the snowflake symbol is for ice traction - these tires remain soft at low temperatures, with special corrugated sipes to grip ice, but should not be used at temperataures above 45F as they wear like erasers. .
