I've had my 1990 prado for about 3 months now and its awesome. I work with youth so having all that passenger space in something that isn't a minivan is a total plus! Recently I have been losing mileage and getting a lot of chugging on startup. The head and coolant are fine just had them checked along with the plugs and fuel filter. Could this be the injectors? they havent been done and I'm at 88k. I need this vehicle to run well with good mileage.

I see your on post 1 which makes you new here.. Welcome.
I hope some one here can help with your question..

Pictures??

is this mostly as it is getting colder in the morning? if so then install a lower rad hose heater and plug it in. it is normal to get poorer fuel milage and for the truck to be a bit more sluggish in the colder mornings...

did you run any injector cleaner through the system?

go to Napa and buy a can of sea foam. remove your fuel filter (you have changed out all your filters and fluids right?) dump out the diesel into a clean can and poor the injector cleaner in, top up with the removed diesel, reinstall and fire it up. it will smoke and stink for a bit. done...

One thing that you need to do, is give the glow plugs a longer heating time, especaly in the colder weather.
To many people just get in and start up and drive.
Your plugs will remain worming up for approx2.5min , if your motor has not started up then the plugs autmaticly turn off.
I give my Prado about 10sec when its cold.
Works for me.
