This is a pic of the receiver that I made (100% custom).
Its a peice of square tube welded thru the crossmember.
The pin that holds the hitch is behind the crossmenber and is vertical. This had the accidental benefit that the hitch cannot be removed when the rear doors are closed.

I also wrapped the crossmember in 1/4" plate as it was quite rusty. I tow my boat with it...bout 1500lb....no problems thus far!

i like the looks of that one...bolt on or welded?

The receiver is welded in.
Was easy welding the front of it (front of the rear?!?)
Welding it to the rear was tricky not much room between the crossmember and fuel tank.

The hitch is a standard 4" drop and I drilled the pin hole vertical. Position is just about perfect and have about 1/2" clearance from the gusset to my step.

I just need to finish my stainless sheet to cover the frame in front of the step.

Was going to make it bolt on but i figured by the time i wanted to unbolt it, it would be rusted in place anyways!

my LJ 78 came with a bolt-on loop-style hitch; a small plate (about 4"x4") four bolts through to the frame just under the door. I had the loop cut off, welded on a receiver, and install a standard hitch (any amount of drop you need for the trailer). Total bill $30. Four bolts through to the frame is bomber; i have towed a loaded trailer in full four wheel drive mode (chasing bullwinkle) and bashed it hard with no sign of problems.

quad trailer , cool

On closer inspection of the Amazon listing I'm not sure I would trust that particular hitch for highway trailer towing or a recovery point, the materials used look a little on the thin side and it isn't made with a proper piece of hitch receiver tubing, just welded plates. However, there were other, similar but highway towing rated hitches recommended on Amazon.

On the other hand it is pretty sturdy. I think that for the price is worth a try and if you don’t like it Amazon has a pretty flexible return policy. You guys can be the judge.
Have you had any issues with it so far? At least for me all I need to tow is around 500lbs MAX. Mine came stock with a hook and to be honest I'm not sure what that's for.
